How Do You Get Perfume to Keep Its Fragrance After Its On?

I want to buy a middle priced perfume, around the 25 $ range, but it seems like whatever the fragrance is it dont stay on me. I want to stay away from Tollette sprays because I've been told there lighter in fragrance anyways. I've been told that if you use deodorant soap or even deodorant will affect it too. Is "layering" a waste of money? Like those pretty box sets?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you to EVERYONE responding and helping ppl !!!!!! I will not pinch pennies! Yes, a little will go a long way because I'll cherish it. If I'm gonna spend that much, I won't get perfume, I'll get a new wardrobe instead. Soap, water, and deodorant is a classic.
I like MP a lot!!

This literally is making me sneeze just thinking about it. Being that I am allergic to practically everything, please be conscious of how much you use. I don't need to smell you when you sit next to me frankly. A soft scent is fine, but if I start itching and sneezing because you sit at the table next to me then it's too much. You probably can't smell it anymore because you are used to it. Spray it in the air and let it fall on you. Good luck.

you know you get instantly noseblind after applying perfume, right?
this is one of the many reasons i miss my kids being home. not only did they tweak my wardrobe if i'd make an unfortunate choice, they were really good at saying 'you smell great, mom, but we can smell you half the house away.'
don't be me.

Just because YOU don't smell it doesn't mean it's not there. Trust me.
A nice scent, even when very lightly sprayed, gets in your clothes and hair, and anyone who gets close to you will smell it.
Unless you are a smoker, or are around smokers, in that case your sense of smell is pretty much dead.

Reading your question I thought about the old ladies when I was young that you would gag behind because of how much perfume they put on.

If you wear the same stuff (no matter what quality) you will not smell it anymore. I suggest getting a few different scents and using a different one every now and then. I also find that the more expensive ones last longer, not just the scent, but the bottle itself.

Use soaps, deodorants and laundry detergents that are scent free so you wont have too many different scents on your body.

Oils or perfume will last the longest.

Eau de parfum or eau de toilette will fade sooner as not as concentrated (diluted).

Put it on a spot that you won't wash off during the day or won't rub. Wrists rub a lot on mouse pads and desks and clothes.

Layering works.

The more expensive the perfume, usually the better quality.

Keep in mind, you might not be able to smell it after a while, but most likely, other people still can. People tend to wear too much perfume because they want it to last. Better to use less and reapply if you go out later.

Just buy the good stuff. Really. I spend $200 on a 1/4 ounce bottle of Chanel No. 5 Parfum, lasts me a year, a dot behind my ears (and never a dot more) every single day. $17 a month seems like a reasonable fragrance budget to me.

(Also, I should mention, if you wear the same fragrance every day, just cuz YOU can't smell it, doesn't mean others can't)

:)

Hi E.,

I agree with the posts below. And one point I absolutely agree on is not to pinch pennies in this area. I spend about $85 on the classic Vera Wang and I love it and it lasts for months. I sought out a new scent for my wedding day 19 years ago and have been wearing my Vera as a day scent ever since then. I can be quite frugal when it comes to many things but perfume and jewelry?? shaking my head...I don't pinch pennies in those areas.

My advice is go to Sephora and sample the scents without regard to cost, you can also ask a salesgirl (they are very knowledgeable) to help guide you if you have something in mind that you want to gravitate toward or against. For example, I prefer clean scents that are simple and elegant. I don't enjoy complex, super floral, super spicy scents. They can help you figure out a signature scent. I'm not saying you should finance the purchase, only that you should splurge on yourself on this one, you won't be sorry.

To answer your specific question re: the sets...I've found that they provide too many layers of scent so I tend to stick to scent free everything else so the perfume can do it's part. Besides....each item runs out at different times anyway.

Happy shopping!! :-) S.

How do you know the scent isn't staying?
The thing is, after a short while we become nose blind (get use to the scent) and then you can't tell whether it's there anymore.
I've known people who smelled like they dumped the bottle over their heads - every day.
Other peoples eyes stung and watered and HR had to step in to tell them to knock it off.
It amounts to office chemical warfare - and too many people (co-workers) have allergic reactions to scents.

Buy the good stuff. It is worth it in the long run. I spend about $150 on Cartier and it last at least a year. You don't use much at all and like others said, just because you can't smell it does not mean others can't. I get compliments on mine in the late afternoon sometimes.

I find that people with dogs don't think their house smells like a dog...soon as I walk into a house with a dog however I know. My bet is that you are probably just used to the smell and don't notice it any more. (Not comparing your perfume to the scent of a dog...just saying people get used to familiar smells😊)

Have you considered using essential oils? Scents like lavender, cedarwood, ylang ylang and citrus are lovely and not as overpowering as perfume. Plus, you can create your own unique scent without breaking the bank.

You know what? most people have stopped wearing cologne and perfume due to so many people having severe reactions to them and health problems. I suggest you ask your most honest friend how you smell. I bet your nose is used to the fragrance and you smell, A LOT, but your nose is used to it so you can't smell it anymore.

Haven't you ever walked by someone in the mall and been overwhelmed still after they've gone out of sight by their cologne smell? They probably didn't think they smelled good either.

If this is a good quality scent from anywhere, Avon, Mary Kay, Dillards, or other stores where their fragrances are great then you could have a biological issue where your skin isn't set up to hold fragrance. My mom couldn't wear perfume at all. She could put something on and it smell wonderful, in a half hour it smelled like something dead was picked up and rubbed on her skin. It was awful!

I think your truthful friend might say your fragrance is just fine and you don't need another drop. If they don't think you smell good then you could talk to a doc because it might be that you need to spray a hankie or square of cloth and keep that in your pocket or something.
