Weight gain/loss has to do with hormones - your insulin. You want to eat to keep your insulin at an even level (this has nothing to do with diabetes - it's just how our bodies work!).

You want to eat lots of veggies - super healthy. Eat fruits too - super healthy. Don't eat a lot of carbs - not many chips, breads (even healthy ones), sodas, juices, etc. You want to eat a good amount of meat. You also want to eat a good amount of protein of various types. Basically the more protein you eat (veggies are "free" food, so you should eat this when eating protein) and the least amount of carbs you eat, the more weight you'll lose. Most of the carbs in our diets are bad carbs that make you get fat.

When I have my babies, I get back down to 117lbs after each of them. This diet works. It's not really a diet, just a healthy way to eat.

Don't eat treats, except very rarely. Drink water. Oh, and make sure you get up and walk around - go on walks, etc.

You also might like the book "Lose Your Mummy Tummy" by Tupler. It gets you your pre-baby belly back (working on the muscles).

Also, if you watch "Fat Head" it has some REALLY good information on how our bodies gain/lose weight. There's much more to it than just calories/exercise. That works for some people but for others it does not. Eating based on keeping an even insulin is what works. If you do Netflix, you can instant watch it.

Do what others suggested, but most of all, STAY MOTIVATED. It's so easy to lose motivation when you're a mom.
Find several things that motivate you:
I want to get healthy to have more energy and live longer for my child.
I want to set a good example for my child.
I want to look good and feel good in my body.

to lose ANY weight - you need to change your habits.

Eat smaller meals during the day instead of just 3 meals - spread them out during the day.

Drink plenty of water.

Exercise - DANCE! Walk! Have sex (it's a GREAT way to burn off calories!)
Eat healthy - fresh veggies, fruits.

Don't starve yourself. Don't not have a snack or a sweet - have it in moderation - instead of eating the box, eat two. Moderation.

Good luck!

Hi Mama-
If you want to lose it at home, there are some exercise programs that really do work. You need to follow the healthy eating plans--I eat healthy but did not exercise. That movement made all the difference. I love Turbo Jam by Beach Body. I only did the "jam" cardio party workout, and lost inches, literally off of my waiste. It took a few months, but it was worth it. I let it go and now I am kicking myself! Back to the turbo jam! I also do a little yoga, which keeps the muscles long and lean-makes working out easier for me. It's also low impact if you have bad knees--or too much weight on your knees. There is a lady on there who only does the low impact and she, after a year, looks amazing and is in great shape.
Another great home one by Beach Body is Insanity (more intense) or Slim in 6--low impact and good workout. Most of these are 40 minutes to an hour and will tone your bod like nothing else. Turbo Jam has upgraded to Turbo Fire (i just looked it up online) but it's the same instructor. The programs cost around $90 - $120, but if you think about getting a trainer or going to the gym, you will spend that much for only 3-5 months...so if you are willing to stick to it, I like the home workout. To vary your days, take your kids for a walk in the stroller--or go for a family walk in the evenings with your hubby. Make healthy living part of your every day, with things like snack bags of fruit and veggies, yo baby yogurts, granola, etc....to snack on or eat during the day. You can prep "bins" of these in the evenings or on the weekend- any time you have down time. Combined with a little exercise, you should be in shape in no time.
Good luck mama! You can do it!

Put baby in a stroller and go walking. Find a friend to join in the fun. It is amazing how fun and therapeutic it is when you get out of the house, in the sun, getting your blood pumping while talking and laughing.

Do a good ab workout each day. I use THE FIRM videos...mine are used and were very cheap. Only takes about 7-10 minute each day and you see good results.

Watch your calorie intake. Eat lots of fruits and veggies when snacking urges come...drink lots of water...I can't say enought about water. Sleep is also very important to weight loss. Try to get good sleep...take a nap when baby is sleeping.

Good luck..Don't have unattainable expectations...start simple then build up. The hardest part is getting started and keeping consistent.

Wishin' you the best...congrats on new baby!!
