Has Anyone Downloaded Their Banking History to QB?

I have not actually downloaded my statements diretly from my bank to Quickbooks but I do do everything else on Quickbooks. My husband and I own a landscaping business and we use quickbooks to keep everything in order, we send invoices, recieve payments and print our checks on quickbooks. I do use the checkbook register offered in Quickbooks and reconcile my bank statment against quickbooks. It has been a wonderful program to work with but I'm still pretty new to it and have lots to learn. I don't know if my bank offers the option of downloading to quickbooks but if they do, I'll be signing up for it!

I like QB and use it even at my office -I work 40 hours as an a accountant. But I recomend if you download to QB create another company, so it is just info from the bank. Make certain you have a good firewall, and it is up to date. You could even get a flashdrive to place the QB on and write to the flash drive. Eveyone needs to be watching the bank transactions very closely now, not just because of the Sweetbay problem, but banks employ people, and people make mistakes. Make certain that the transactions are ones you have made. I personally download mine to Excel, it is so easy to archive, and find certain items. QB may make you assign a cost or income account for each transaction. That is how it creates Profit & Loss reports. It may end up being more trouble than it is worth. That is why I use Excel, I have the data the bank gives me & I don't have to fuss with it. Also - my bank does not offer Quick Books, only Quicken, and Quicken Financial Exchange, the CSV (Comma Separated Values) is just simpler to deal with. If you still want it in QB then use the Import from Excel Feature in QB. No matter what, back up your files first, just in case!!

I have my own business too and I use QB and bless the day that they invented the online download thing... because the alternative is entering each reciept... as you know. The drawback is that you get spoiled, and download, and you arent as on top of what you are spending as when you enter each transaction etc... But you might be different than me. I am an artist type who hates accounting and its the best thing that ever happened, even tho I have been advised to review each reciept 1-2 times a week and be in that habit of doing the book-keeping thing and being more on top of it. Anyway.. Its a secure thing-- I do it thru wachovia.. I have Wachovia online too and compare it etc...just to make sure nothing suspicious is going on... All in all its pretty neat and If you are busy, just DO IT! It saves a heap of time.. and you can pay your bills thru it too. And even if you suck at QB like I do, it still works..!!! Good luck!

I know lots of people that have their statements downloaded to Quickbooks. No problems with it at all. I look at it this way. People working at credit unions, banks have been known to quit and take information with them that they shouldn't have. When ever you do business involving money you take a risk. Just make sure you set up unique passwords, make sure they don't contain birthdays, names, etc. You should be fine.
