Hello,
I am looking to have hardwood floors installed in place of the hideous(!) ceramic tile that runs almost entirely throughout my first floor. I need a company or individual who can remove the old tile and install the hardwood--looking for someone professional and trustworthy. Please let me know if you know of or have experience with this.
Thanks!
K.

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all of your advice! I called three of the companies that were suggested and ended up going with K. S.'s recommendation of PK Flooring, ###-###-####. Paul Kapinos is the owner and he was awesome. He came out to my house to do the quote then came over several more times with samples since I was having a hard time deciding. He (along with two of his workers) ended up laying down hickory floors with a walnut inlay and my floors look absolutely amazing. I couldn't be happier. They got the job done one day earlier than quoted, they had the best quote, they sometimes worked 13 hour days and they included all sorts of extras (such as flush wood heater vents) that many of the other companies charged extra for. They did a great job on clean up and worked really hard to keep a dusty messy process (having ceramic and plywood ripped out, then sanding and finishing the floors on site)dust free.
K. S., thank you sooooo much for your recommendation! I am already passing his name onto my friends!

I've lived here all my life and I've NEVER been a fan of the winters here!!!!
Good Luck.

I actually know someone who does amazing work. He is wonderful. He is an amazing handyman and does all kinds of work for people. He is currently working on moving an entire bathroom. His name is Charles Brooks and his number is ###-###-####. His prices are very affordable. He is independent and depending on the job at hand, he occasionally employs a young man to help him. You won't be sorry you called him. Mention my name if you'd like, he knows who I am. Good luck with your project.

Jay's Hardwood Floors - don't know the number offhand, but they did a great job in my dining room and were reasonably priced. Probably in the phonebook. I'm in Wheaton, can't remember where they're located, but they're local.

Hi K.,
I'm not sure how handy your husband is, but my husband actually installed our hardwood flooring and once he had someone show him how to get started he mastered it! It saved us a lot of money and it looks great!

We picked our flooring at lumber liquidators and then they hook you up with an installer (ours was A to Z flooring). It was dramatially less expensive than others. Good luck!

From my experience - go with pre-finished hardwood floors. We had hardwood installed and I was in tears over the mess from the sanding. I think most places can install either.

My son works for a company that has a guy who does their hardwood floors. He says this is the only person he would recommend to me as I'm planning to do that also. If you'd like a contact # please let me know. K. S
