I have chin lenth hair and I am thinking about getting extensions. The lady that will do it says that the extensions themselves are around 500-700 and should last about a year, and I have to come in every 2-3 months to get them resewn. For those of you that have them do they really last a year? I work out alot and I am worried that I will have to wash my hair more often than recommended (because I sweat a lot when I work out).

EDIT- The extensions are those gorgeous hollywood super long extenstions (it would take years before my hair would even come close!)

What can I do next?

To answer your question, I do think that they last 9 months to a year. Honestly though, that's a lot of money for something that you could get yourself if you just waited and grew your hair out (but that's just me). I would probably just try to go the natural route for a bit and see how it works before investing the money and time.

Can you check around other places? Seems very pricey for sewn in extensions. I've had sewn in extensions before. I took them out after a while, but just because my hair was manageable not because they didn't last. I had them in for 6 months. If it's natural human hair or something like that it should be fine washing it. Ask your stylist about it.

Those kinds of extensions are gorgeous, no doubt. Are there any similars that are less expensive? Do you have to pay to get them re-sewn?

Just be careful with super short to super long they do not always blend in well ... look at some of Paris Hilton's photos, hers were done poorly as well as Ashley Tisdale - you can tell where her real hair ends and where the extensions begin. There are many more Hollywood celebutaunts out there who have REALLY BAD extensions esp when going with dramatic lenghts.
I am not fond of sewing them in or fusion really, both really do damage on your hair. You may want to try out first, for 100ish bucks clip in extensions first to see if you even like them to begin with. Glam Time Hair Extensions are a good place on the web ... www.glamtimehair.com
you can find videos all over you tube about how they work, upkeep styleing etc and I would also look on you tube about sewn in extensions too!

If you have the money, it sounds like fun! I would consider it;-) You can get cheaper ones online made from real hair. My sister was telling me about it. I think they clip in your hair, though.

I'm not a big fan of super fake, Hollywood extensions. They look fake and they ruin the hair you do have. Do you have tons of cash for the upkeep?? Some of my daughter's friends have them (getting them done in fancy So. California salons) and they haven't worked out that long with minimal maintenence.
