Growling 7-Month-old

Hi there. My 7-month-old daughter is very vibrant and energetic and loves new people. Since she was about 5.5-6mos, she has been doing this growling thing which was cute and funny at first but now I am starting to think it is a little odd.

She does have GERD and the doctor says that it is normal for kids to "grunt" when the silent reflux pops up. However, I know the difference and I know she is not grunting from GERD.

Whenever she sees someone new or someone that she likes, or something excites her or we are walking down the isles of the grocery store, and she wants to tear everything off of the shelves, she growls. She even does this when playing with some of her toys.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Is this just a stage she is going through or should I be looking into something else?

What can I do next?

Oh my god my daughter does the same thing. Yes, we laughed at first but we try not to now. She is 9 months old and I am petrified that when she gets baptized this weekend she will do it up there!!! : )

My daughter had severe acid reflux and spent a long time on zantac and throwing up everyday. I think she has outgrown it for the most part and I took her off the zantac a while ago but I notice she either growls or starts clearing her throat. Part of me thinks the growling leads to the throat clearing and now that she has that down she does not growl as much. Most likely because she still gets a little acid reflux here and there.
I do notice the more sounds she makes and now she is crawling and standing she does not do it as much. Most people I asked said they are just learning to use their voice! I wouldn't be to worried as you can see you are ot the only one.
One story I thought you would get a kick out of is..I was selling my kitchen table and when the woman was picking it up Madeline was sitting in her high chair cute as could be and playing with her toys. The woman commented a million times on how good and happy she was and don't you know after 10 minutes the women had her back to her talking to me and you would have thought the girl from the excorcist sat down in the high chair!! I just said don't mind my demon daughter!! What can you do they are just learning!!

Hi,

My four year old did the same thing at your daughter's age. He grew out of it when he began learning words. My mother used to get really embarrassed at the grocery store when he'd growl at people and she would exclaim, "Oh! Are you a scary bear?" and people would smile but it was disconcerting at times!

My 6 month old daughter does the exact same thing. We laughed about it as well. Nobody seems too concerned about it, so we figured that she is just testing out her vocal chords. Sometimes she does a high pitched squeal as well. They're still young so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

it could be a stage.. but since you thought it was cute and laughed about it and she gets attention for it,she may be doing it for that reason too! kids are funny and like to please you .. that's why you have to be careful and not laugh (or let them see you laugh) when they do those funny yet inappropriate things! LOL try not reacting to it for a bit and see what happens.. I wouldn't worry about it though.. she's little so it's cute.. if she were 3 and doing it, then I'd worry..
