I am getting the Mirenea IUD put in this Thursday. I was told by the nurse that it is a wonderful way to prevent pregnancy and hardly any side effects if any at all. She said she has it and loves it. I need to find out from others out there how they feel about it. If they have had it and the results. Please respond as soon as possible so I can decide if this is a bad idea!!!!

What can I do next?

Hey B.,

I've had my Mirena for a year and a half and I LOVE IT!!! No periods, no noticeable side effects (I have gained weight, but that can be attributed to my lifestyle as well). I spotted for about 6 weeks, nothing bad and every once in a while, I'll cramp on my right sidpretty bad, but other than that.....I LOVE IT!!!!! Good luck.

I had Mirenea put in and was also told by my doctor it was wonderful and a perfect choice for me - wrong! The day I had it inserted, I had to call my boyfriend to pick me up from the doctor's office because the pain was so bad I couldn't drive home, plus I was not told about the wires until I was on the table getting it inserted. The next week I felt horrible, like I had the flu along with severe cramps. I had it removed about a week after insertion and felt like a completely different person right after it was removed. While I had it in I went on a few websites to read what others had to say about it and it was the same story over and over.

I love my Mirena. I am a mother of 2 girls ages 4 & 5 yrs. I had them at a young age and did not want any more children and I was too young to get my tubes tied. So I decided on the Mirena. It has made my life sooo easy, I love it. I have not experienced any side effects bc no periods!! yay!! And I have had it since April 2005. The one thing I like about the Mirena is if I want to have children in a year or so, I can take it out and try right away. I'm not saying it is right for everybody, but I sure do LOVE mine. And I recently donated eggs, and they did not have to do anything with the Mirena, they just left it in there, did the surgery and I was on my way. Thanks and Good Luck......S.

I had the Mirena IUD for about 7 months and had it removed. I never had a peroid while I had it & my Dr. was going to give me medication to have a period. Being a nurse, I knew that this couldn't be good on my body. I felt bloated 95% of the time & was very moody. This was just my experience with it, everyone's body is different. I have had other women tell me they love it, so best of luck to you!

I've had mine in for 1.5 years now, and I love it! At first, I had about 2 weeks of bleeding, but now I hardly have any period at all. Maybe some mild spotting for a few days every month or two. It's well worth not having to worry about other forms of birth control.

I LOVE mine. I have had it about a year. The only comlaint I would have is the cramping you experience after it is placed. This only lasts a day though. Everything else has been great. I like not having to worry about taking a pill ever day. I have not had any side effects.

I have it and LOVE IT! It did hurt a bit when they put it in. It took my breath away and I felt dizzy for a bit but after that I was fine. I think some people have cramping but I didn't after the first hour. The first three or four months I had random spotting and a normal period but since then no spotting and no period. I love it love it love it! I had the old style IUD and hated it! I've tried everything the pill, the shot, the ring and the patch. I hated them all but I tell everyone who ask they should try the Mirena IUD. You don't ever have to think about it again (well until it's time to take it out!) I think you should get it! I don't think you'll regret it!

I LOVE IT!!! I have had it for 2 years now and I think it is the best bith control on the market! It hurt pretty bad when it was put in but my doc said that was because I have a tilted uterus. She gave me a pain pill right before I got it done to take the edge off. After it was in it didn't hurt anymore. I did bleed for a couple of weeks afterward but then my periods started getting lighter and lighter until I didn't have one at all! I haven't had a period in a year which I think is awsome! No cramping,no moodiness, nothing! It is so worth getting!!

Hey!! My son was born March 26, and I had mine put in when he was 3 weeks old....yesterday(Sep. 29) was the first day of my first peroid since!! I LOOOOOVE having this...I have heard of people who get headaches, but that has not happened to me. The only thing is that I cramped some before this period...and that's it!! When I was on The Pill, the day before my period, I would have severe bloating and headaches so bad that I would have to lie in the dark and quiet. It is wonderful not having to keep up with pills, and wondering if I had taken my pill that day. If this IUD doesn't cooperate with you, the BCP I've heard a lot about is the YAZ...I didn't go on a pill because I was breastfeeding. GOOD LUCK! I hope it works out for you! (Oh, and if you cramp up a lot at first, it is because your uterus is not used to having something in there...similar to when you get pregnant)

The process of having it put in will leave you crampy and spotty for a day or so and ur periods will soon start to lesson and diminish. But, w/ my experience, within 2mts of having it in, I had to have the strings cut back twice because my hubby said they were poking him and then, within one year, I was pregnant. You can't really take me as an example; my hubby and I are called "freaks of nature" in the world of fertility...lol...When we discovered that I was pregnant(yet again) my dr. had to remove the IUD-it was VERY painful because he had to cut it out. My insides had grown over it.From the trauma it put on my insides from having it removed,I miscarried.
I would say that as long as you're not as fertile as my hubby and I are, then you should be fine w/it! I appreciated it because it was no mess/no fuss birth control, but, birth control doesn't really work for us!

Good Luck!

Hi. I have had my IUD since April and at first I had a lot of problems with it. I was having super irregular bleeding, it made me black out a couple times (we don't know why). I haven't had any issues with it in the past couple months though. I really like it now. Good luck with getting yours!!

I tried to get the Mirena 3 years ago - decided it was the perfect solution for me. I went in to get it 1 week after I started my period as instructed. They did a preg test anyway which was negative. My doc tried 5 times to put it in & it would not go. It was VERY uncomfortable. She finally gave up & we started to discuss other options. As the nurse was cleaning up the mess, she noticed my pregnancy test had turned positive! I now have a beautiful 2 yo boy that I am very thankful for. I had my tubes tied when I had a c-section with him. So, although this doesn't really address your situation, I thought you might get a kick out of the story.
BTW - I now have 3 boys - 2,4,& 6 & wouldn't have it any other way!

I got my Mirena in April, after the birth of my fifth child. I love it! I don't have to worry about pills, or rings, and I haven't had any side effects. I had bleeding for the first 4-6 weeks, but haven't had a period since. I occasionally spot, VERY lightly, immediately after sex, but nothing to complain about. So, I'd say, "Go for it"! If you don't like it, you can always have it removed. Good luck!!

A friendo of mine got this and it ended up dislodging from were it was put and is now apparently floating around in her body and she was just told she was going to have to surgery and have it removed and then be on bed rest for a while. If you had me a arm implant or even regular birthcontrol is a better option than this it seems really scary that could happen.

I got my Mirene put in back in May and haven't had any problems at all. It was painless and took literally less than a minute for my Dr to put in place. I have a friend who has one also and she loves hers too. Hope you have as good of experience as I did.

I have had the Mirena IUD for four years. It has been great. Unlike most of the other responders who had some bleeding after getting it, I had heavy bleeding for nearly 3 months straight(so if this happens to you, don't be discouraged). I made an appointment to have it taken out, but by the time my appointment came up, I had had no bleeding for three weeks, so I decided to keep it in and I haven't had a period since. I have had occasional spotting that lasts about 1-2 days. I have not used a tampon in 4 years!! I am due to have it taken out next year and I am going to miss it. The only other point worth mentioning is that my husband could feel it when we were intimate. My doctor trimmed the cords a little more and he hasn't noticed it since. I was also concerned about not having a period for such a long time, but my doctor and other women who have it assured me that it was OK not to have a period. I agree that it is very uncomfortable to have it inserted, but short lived pain.

Hi B.,

I had my mirena inserted when my son was 6 weeks old. I have now had it in for 18 months. I absolutely love it. It is a no fuss birth control. I never had irregular periods after it was inserted. My periods were really light for a couple of months. I have only had spotting 1 or 2 days a month ever since. I know several other women who have it also and they all absolutely love it. Good luck!

Hi there! I have had the IUD for almost 5 years and I have loved it myself. No worries about missed pills, I have had lighter periods. I really can't think of any side effects that I have had. I would recommend it. But with all things you have to remember that all things are not for everyone. I hope that it works out for you. Good luck.
