My daughter is almost 12. My husband really cherishes all the cute Father's Day gifts she made when she was little. At pre school, they had each child dip their hands in paint and press them on a white t-shirt, then they wrote "Best Dad, hands down" on it with a permanent marker. The hand print in the clay that hardens is also nice to have. Other than that, my husband likes a nice breakfast and spending the day with us. A card made by my daughter is always appreciated. She's pretty creative and he loves her sense of humor. Really, men don't seem to care as much as we do about this holiday.

ASK HIM :) Best advice you'll get.

Seriously - read back through the disgruntled Mother's Day posts about how first-time moms didn't get what they wanted. It may have been avoided if there had been communication of expectations.

So...ask him. He may want the cute t-shirt, mug, picture. Or he might be like some men want don't want 'crafts' as gifts or gush over them like a mommy would. He may want to sleep in. He may want to do what he wants to do on his Father's Day which could be go golfing with his buddies (and no judging this one - how many moms are like "I want to go get a massage or pedicure").

If you're going to make this a true father's day - ask him what he wants to do. And then do it :)

A mug with your daughters picture on it.
**Keep in mind that men really dont care about the holiday much until they get old and actually miss their grown children that have moved out of the house.
That's when being remembered really counts.

I have to laugh at MR's response! Yes, you should ask him but I also think there will be far fewer disgruntled daddies than mommies! Women are more into these things than men and although I think you should acknowledge him, I don't think it's a big deal for most men.

I find that food stuffs are usually a big hit with my husband. I'll admit it isn't particularly special or memorable, but it's fun and allows him to indulge in some yummy treats! I usually go the route of things like special bacons/sausages, his fave candies, a nice restaurant, etc. I have also done pictures in frames for his office, which he enjoys as well. Just have fun and I'm sure he will too!

I do office pictures for my husband. A special picture of him and (then first) baby together. Usually i select a picture he mentioned how much he liked, etc. I add a little saying to the matting (not too emotional - he's a "guy's- guy") about being a father.
This is his 8th father's day and he hangs each of them up in his office and finds new places for them every year. He is so proud of his role as daddy - he likes to show off the kiddos:)

I also take him golfing and let him just chill with the boys. Right now they are all into fishing - so day on the lake it will be.
Have fun!

Starting with the first, and every father's day since I have given him a mini scrapbook with only pictures of the two of them (hubby & daughter) together from the previous year. The first year, I took a class at a local scrapbooking store, one year I made a "wallet" out of leather (partially stitched, partially glued etc) looking scrapbooking paper, made an accordion of pictures front and back to pull out, and in the slots where one would normally have driver's license and credit cards etc, I made cards that said things like "world's greatest dad" and "a daddy's wallet holds photos where his $ used to be" or something to that effect, if you search online you'll find all kinds of little quotes and sayings relative to father /daughter, father/son and being a daddy in general.

Denise's idea is great! Too cute.

Also, before you give him the shirt, let him sleep in as late as he wants while you get up with the baby. What man wouldn't love that!? It will make that t shirt look that much sweeter when he is well-rested!

If you go to someplace like Michael's you can get a kit to make him a stepping stone with the child's hand and foot prints. I know it isn't very manly, but he will have the hand and foot prints for years to come.

Diamondback's game (their #1 right now) & hot sex with his wife. I know that sounds crazy but I've been married for 26 years and what my husband wants on special days is to be appreciated and respected by his family and he loves time alone with me (if you know what I mean).

PS: Just noticed you're not in Arizona, so the Diamondback's game might now work - but hot sex works every time - lol!

I did a mug at Walgreens.com (or Shutterfly) with pictures of him and our daughter. Across the top it says "Happy Father's Day 2009, Love [name]". He loved it and shows it off. He's a coffee drinker, so it was a hit. The next year I did a travel mug, and I just ordered a third for this year.

My husband loves sports so for his first Father's day, I dressed my daughter up in a Redskins jersey and got her pictures done. He loved it. It's still in his office. She was only a few months old so I couldn't use one of his, so I got one for her. With your kid being older, maybe you can put him in one of your husband's favorite jersey. It will be oversized and cute. I also hear of people putting them in their husband's dress shirts and ties. We have a picture like this as well of my daughter, and my husband has that is his office too. Those are the only 2 pictures he has in his office.

Oohhh, let's see we've done a few things:
Decorate an apron with your son's hands going down and write,
"#1 Daddy, hands down.
Purchase a picture frame that's divived and place different pictures along
with a saying from a card. Cut the saying out and frame it with the pictures.
Does he travel? Buy him a traveling digital frame, easy to carry.
How about t-shirt? Decorate it like the apron and/or they have some at
Target and Kohl's with "Daddy" sayings.
We'll grill...weather permitting, buy or make his favorite dessert and buy him something nice. He loves anything we get him. Good luck and have fun!
