Craft Ideas for a Father's Day Gift

My husband has said that he doesn't want anything for father's day, pretty much because we've got a million things going on next month and money is going to be tight. So, I am wondering if anybody has any craft ideas for my 14month old to make for her daddy. I am not very creative when it comes to crafts, so any suggestions would be great! Thank you :)

What can I do next?

I bought a pack of white mens t-shirts ($8 for the storebrand), and a set of fabric paints (at target for $5-or JoAnn Fabrics or Michaels) and had the kids put their handprints in cool patterns on a shirt. Then I let them go nuts decorating it anyway they wanted. We made the two grandpas shirts with the others in the pack. So for about $14 dollars we got three dad's day gifts to give. Everyone loved them. My husband wears his on the weekends, and the kids get really tickled and pleased when he does.

The paints wash well so mess isn't too bad. They also are pretty colorfast on the fabric. No bleeding in the wash.

I'm having my son make a pen holder for my husband's desk at work. I'm using a Crystal Light tube (you know, the thing that the four tubs of mix come in), hot gluing it to a cardboard platform (so it won't tip over), and letting my son paint it. Then I'll attach a pic of him and write Happy Father's Day. It's simple and a little cheesey, but it'll be cute. That's what these holidays are about in my opinion, whatever your child can make. It's way more special.

I agree with Debi, some photos for his desk would be nice. For my husbands first fathers day I got one of thos multi photo frames and put a few photo's of him and our son together in it. He really liked it.

For Mother's Day our daycare did a really neat project that can easily be adapted to Father's Day. They painted the bottom of the kids' feet and had them step onto a piece of paper. They glued that onto a piece of foam with magnets on the back. At the bottom they put the following poem: "Please walk a little slower, Mommy," said (child's name) so small. "I'm walking in your footsteps and I don't want to fall."

Hi A.
You have gotten some great ideas. The gift my husband liked the most was when I bought a poster frame (pretty cheap at walmart) and put pictures of him and the kids in it with there foot prints and a lot of sayings about fathers that where true to him .like the poem What Is A Dad.(I found it on the internet) If this is your only child you can do the same thing in a 10X13 frame and I am sure he will love it. My husband hung his in our living room so he can see all the time. :)T.

Last year I printed out a 4x6 picture of my kids and put it on a 8.5x11 white cardstock page. Then above the picture I put each of the kid's handprints using finger paint and then put it in an inexpensive frame. I spent about $3 total and my husband loved it. You can even do free borders at walmart.com or walgreens.com when you upload your picture.

The one gift that my husband really like was the year we went to Michael's and bought "cozy covers" you put a canned beverage in them. The boys each decorated a cozy cover for daddy (sharpies are great for older ones however they have the foam stickers that work really well also)!

The other idea that we get so many compliments on are at the dollar store we bought BBQ tongs, spatula and fork... they have a wooden handle and we again used a sharpie marker and colored them also writing Happy Father's Day along one side.

OK Lastly the very list year we had kids we planted a tree. Just a small little tree but every year we go out and have the boys pictures next to the tree so that we can see how the tree and the boys have grown.

Buy a plain baseball and paint the bottom of your little one's foot and put it on the baseball. The infant room where I work does that and the father's love it.

I made my daughters father a poster board that hangs next to his bed. It is pictures of him and her and her little tiny hand prints on it. It was a great idea and he loved it.

How about a picture album made just for him full of pictures of him with your daughter?
She could help decorate it!

Or, find a nice daddy poem online and copy it onto a piece of construction paper along with her little hand prints (use paint). You could frame it with a cheap frame.

I've always thought that the best Mother's/Father's day gifts were homemade, and actually from the children anyway.
