I am purchasing a new bed and don't really know the difference between and Eastern King and aCalifornia King. So, thought I would ask you ladies. What is the difference? Which one is better? And which one has the easiest time finding sheets for and are they more expensive?

What can I do next?

eastern king wider and shorter
ca king narrower and longer
one is not better than another per say. Ca king better for tall people. Also, they have a more attractive proportion as they are slightly rectangular and the ea. king is more or less a quare. I don't know if this has anything to do with living in CA, but its way easier to find Ca king sheets than standard sheets.
I own an eastern king because I didn't think it made sense for my 5'-4" frame and my husband 5'-11" frame to buy extra long mattress. We are not tall. We did however like the idea of the whole family snugging in the wider bed. So we stuck with ea king.

I have a traditional king or as you refer to it Eastern king and LOVE it!! My husband is over 6 feet tall and he has plenty of room. No problem finding sheets, Target, Home Goods, Kohls, Macys etc. King sheets are expensive in general.
Here is some info:

Hope this helps!

It is easier to find sheets for the eastern king, which I have never heard referred to as an eastern king, mostly they just call it king.

We have a CA King and have no problems finding sheets for it at all. The only thing we run in to is we need deep pockets and those can be a little harder to find. They are often the first size to sell out around here.
We did our shopping backwards, we knew we wanted a King so we went looking for the bed we wanted and got whatever mattress fit. Jeromes only carries CA King so that's what we ended up with LOL
We need the extra length anyway as both my husband and I are taller. We can fit 3 standard pillows along the top and can fit us and kids in there along with the cats. We don't really miss that 4" more you'd get with the standard king.

We moved from California and brought our CalKing with us - however, when we are able we will exchange it for a traditional King. Primarily for the ease of buying sheets. While it's easy to purchase CalKing sheets in California it's hard to order (CalKing) from places online. Places like the Company Store, etc. do not carry CalKing. When I looked for sheets in stores here California King is unavailable. It may be available at Macys stores (here in Illinois) but I'd rather go with what's easiest to find.

I got a king for the width. So, I wouldn't give up the width of an eastern king for the extra length in the california king. Generally, standard king sheets are easier to find.

Depends on where you are. Here to find CA king sheets or anything else is like pulling teeth. I know the CA kings are just a big square I think 8x8s (dont quote that one) but the regular king is not more like a queen on staroids. I would check around you to see if you can get the stuff you need for a CA king also talk to the company you are purchasing from they may have more information.

You've gotten other answers about the difference in the beds. I just want to throw out that you need to also think about what goes on TOP of your bed, not just the sheets. If the mattress is thick, sometimes you end up with the comforter or spread not covering both sides of the bed enough, and then the boxspring or the bottom of the mattress shows. So take that into consideration.

the Eastern King is what is listed as just King everywhere but California. The California king is longer but not as wide. Waterbed King size is also California King size, just an fyi. If you live in CA then you would find sheets easily for a Cal King... if you live here in IL, it's next to impossible to find bedding for Cal King. Here is a comparison chart, http://www.diffen.com/difference/California_King_Size_vs_...

I have a regular king and I love it. A Cal king is the same thing, but it has different dimensions.
King or Eastern King 76" X 80"
California King 72" X 84"

Sheets are a little harder to find for the Cal king, but not impossible. I am short, so I am not willing to give up with width for length, but my husband would LOVE to have a longer bed since his feet hang off.

I also wanted to recommend that if you are getting a memory foam mattress to look into the gel ones. I haven't tried them, but we have a regular, like Tempurpedic, mattress and it very hot and makes us sweat a lot. but, it is also so soft and comfy that we love it!! Good luck!

The only thing I know is that the CA King is longer (I think?) and sheets are easy to find.
