Hola Mommas,
I have a soon to be 6 year old (eppp!) and I would like to redo his room and I love the idea of turning one of the walls into a rock climbing area but I can't seem to find a how to online and I was wondering if anyone on here on how to make it happen. Thanks for taking the time!

What can I do next?

Search under "rock climbing wall" on Amazon. They have a kit and a how to book on there and also sell the pegs that you can use to build a rock climbing wall. Good luck!

I would try making a climbing wall, and attaching that to a wall instead of turning the wall itself into a climbing wall. That way, if he does get sick of it/you move you can easily remove it with minimum damage to the house. Heck, if he gets sick of it in his room, just move it outside. :)

You can do a lot with bedrooms - pirate theme, fireman theme, dinosaur theme, etc.
I've got nothing against climbing walls - I think they are brilliant (I was a tree climber myself) - but I wouldn't do it in a bedroom.
Bedrooms are for sleeping, resting, napping, reading, relaxing, etc.
A climbing wall outside on a play set is great, and it wouldn't be bad in a playroom either.

I would think twice. When a friend comes over, climbs the wall, breaks an arm (or worse) and the family sues you, your insurance company may have something to say about it.

You'd need to understand the inside of that wall first of all. You don't want to go to Lowes, but the fake rocks they sell in the play set area, then screw them into the wall at home. Kiddo would start climbing them and find he was falling down when he stepped onto that first one that wasn't screwed into a board inside the wall.

I think if you simply google "how to build a rock climbing wall" you'll find a lot of information.

And there are tons more ways of saying it but I think these 2 links will give you everything you need.

It's pretty involved because you use can't put the pegs on the wall and call it a done deal. You have to attach ply wood to the wall securing it into the wall studs so that the pegs have a solid surface to grip where they won't pull out. There's a ton of tutorials on youtube.com. I had thought about doing it a while back but it was too much work and my grandchildren aren't down enough to really make good use of it.

How long are you planning on staying in this home? How much is this going to cost to do? How many years will your son like this changeover? Kids usually like something for about two to three years and then they are done. If and when you are ready to sell the house, you would have to take the rock wall out or give an allowance as in reduced sale price for the buyer to do it.

I am not trying to be a negative Nellie just some other facts to think about. I think it would be nice but I also hope that the wall is one that you don't bump into every time you go in and out of the room.

Good luck to you.
