Am I Nuts? Tim McGraw / Kenny Chesney So Bummed

I am so bummed. So I need some support from all you mamas out there. My husband bought me tickets for the Tim McGraw / Kenny chesney Brothers of the sun tour. Concert is today at Soldier Field in Chicago. It starts at 430.

Temperature sitting in my front yard is currently 102 in aurora. I sold my tickets last night to a friend on face book. she is really excited to go. I can't even imagine sitting in that heat.

Am I nuts to have givin up these tickets? Would you have gone and sat in 100 plus heat in the sun for a concert lasting several hours? My husband is a little bit pissed that I sold them. I got the face value so didn't loose anything except the taxes and handling. But the way I figure it heat exhaustion and a hospital visit would have cost a lot more than that lol.

So no big question really lol. I know for me it was the right choice but wondered if I am in the minority on the choice I made.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Guess I should have specified. He did not buy me tickets for me and him. He does not like country music. I was taking my daughter. I am glad I did not go. Turns out it was awful people were fainting from the heat etc. It sounded amazing and we are going to try to get tickets to the Indiana venue instead which is inside not out in the heat. Glad to see thought that I was not the only person who would have done what I did.

I think you're nuts. I would have gone, but I've lived through 27 Texas summers. 102, is like any other day for me.

We planted a few trees last weekend in 102 heat (110 heat index) and despite drinking plenty of water and taking it easy, wearing a hat, staying in shade, etc - I was dizzy and light headed within 30 min.
This heat is not worth messing around with.
Heat prostration plus the 'joy' of being in a crowd where they are getting sick from the heat too is just not my idea of a fun way to spend an evening.
You did right!

I have fibromyalgia and heat bothers me something fierce, so I would have rested the entire day before and today until i had to get ready and leave, hydrated like crazy the past couple of days, worn sunblock and comfy cotton clothing and gone. Tim McGraw AND Kenny Chesney!

But like you said, you made the right choice for you and that's what matters. Better plan something really nice for your hubby, though...

I would endure disgusting heat for my favorite musician or band, such as Foo Fighters. You only live once. So what if you sweat & get swamp arse!!

Not to mention, I would be SO touched that DH would do something like that for me, I'd HAVE to go. I don't know that it would ever happen, though, cause he's not much of a pre-planner, great guy that he is.

Sounds like your DH is pretty thoughtful & I can see how selling the tickets would be hurtful.

I would have gone anyway. Drink water, put on sunscreen, grab a cowboy hat...you should be fine! (Then again, I live in Texas and we're used to the heat.)

I understand your husband's POV. I'd be pretty pissed if I spent the money on a gift for my husband and the day before or something he decided to sell the tickets to someone else. Give your hubby a break. (And maybe a nice dinner/massage.)

I would have gone - heat and all. There was and is so much you can do to "beat the heat" in a concert. And there are times when they set up "rain sprinklers" for concert-goers to walk through.

I would have been pissed too if my husband sold tickets to a concert that I bought for him because of the heat. your husband has every right to be pissed.

Not really into Tim or Kenny, so that's not really my angle on this. It was such a sweet and thoughtful gift from your husband though. Can he call mine and give him some pointers? LOL!!!!

Oh boy, tough call!! If I had someone to watch my kids (for free), I'd be on my way to Solider Field right now :) I think I'd risk an ER visit for those 2, plus, the temperature is supposed to start dropping soon

Yeah your nuts! lol
Sunscreen, sunhat etc etc would have done the trick.
Outside with live music ,fab.
I live in Ireland ,getting it to stop raining during the summer is a miracle so maybe I am just a little jealous that ye get a summer with heat.

I agree with you. This heat is just too mcuh to be out in for several hours. Before selling them, I would have asked my husband if wanted to bring a friend with him instead of me.

I lived in Redding, Ca. for awhile and the temp in the summer is on average 100+ so I am used to the heat....so I could have handled it and gone and I have gone to outside concerts in the thick of summer...it's not ideal but it was worth it to see my favorite bands.

If you can't handle it, you can't handle it? There is nothing wrong with knowing your limitations.

You are not nuts. I know the temperature is supposed to drop significantly in a matter of hours. It's still so hot out right now! Plus, isn't there a chance for a thunderstorm? And strong winds? And then there is the traffic, parking, and waiting two hours to get out of there. How is that for sour grapes? ;-)

ETA: Three of my friends are Facebooking about the concert right now. They are all stuck in traffic on the 55 about a mile from Soldier Field. No one is going anywhere. And they saw some classy lady peeing on the side of the road. Yep, you did the right thing!

My husband would totally understand because I have to be very careful in the heat, I am prone to heat exhaustion, even at 90 degrees. However, if I had to the chance to see my favorite band (Bauhaus) I would probably go with an umbrella and a large bottle of ice water, simply because I've never seen them. Well, I saw Daniel Ash, etc... in Love and Rockets in '86, but not the whole band including Peter Murphy... ok the heat must be getting to me, I'm starting to babble...sorry.

NOPE, not nuts! I didn't know what "Soldier Field" was so I just looked it up! People are tweeting on the website about the cooling stations all over and saying paramedics are on hand! That is crazy!!!

My question would be to your husband - what was he thinking??? Was he the one going with you? Maybe that's why he's pissed!! My husband knows me well enough to know I would not sit out in the heat for anyone... well, maybe David Cassidy!! But I'd have to think twice even for him!! lol!!!

Hope everyone survives the concert!!

I would have suffered because my husband bought them for me. I live in Texas though. It is really hot all summer. Our son had several baseball games in 103-105 degree heat recently. OMG, I was MISERABLE but stuck it out for my son. SOOOO glad the season is over!

Nope, you are not nuts. We've had two days of 100+ heat this week and the only place I went, briefly, was the beach across the street, then right back to the AC. I don't enjoy doing much of anything in the heat. It the concert was after dark, maybe I would've still gone, but not in the heat of the afternoon.

Find something else fun to do tonight!

I would... But I grew up in 100-120 degree weather. That's the kind of weather I like best. Um. Sans humidity. If its 98% humidity you would only find me out of aircon -on purpose- in a pool.

I would have done the same thing. I don't think your husband bought you the tickets to give you a miserable night! We skipped a concert this summer because of where it was scheduled and when - we never miss this concert....but knew it would be too hot.

Sometimes people forget the point of a present - it's supposed to be fun. If it's not going to be fun, that wasn't really what the giver intended.

I don't blame you, S.. I can't sit in that kind of heat for long either. If I were walking around, and could go inside a store for a little bit to cool off, THEN go back out, and if I could drink a lot of water and go to the bathroom enough, then I could deal. But not at what you are describing.

I'm sorry - I sold my Bono U2 tickets when I was overseas because my husband couldn't go with me, and I didn't want to face dealing with that crowd by myself. He kept saying to me "Are you sure?" Sigh, yeah, I was.

I guess I'm considering your husbands POV. He bought tickets for both of you, could he have gone with a friend who was more heat tolerant? You don't explain how closely you guys follow Tim and Kenny, if you are a so/so fan, but your husband is a superfan...that sort've changes the dynamic. It was a thoughtful gift, and being a gift, the tickets did belong to you. It just sounds like he is more aggravated that you made a decision concerning the use of the tickets without getting his input.

My cousin went to that big Country wing-ding in Nashville. She's used to the heat though.

I love the heat, but not country music. I'm glad she had such an amazing time.

Some people don't do well in the heat. If you know you would have been miserable, then you likely did the right thing. There's no point in being miserable now for not going.

Just my opinion.
