My employer is offering. Yes, I'd have to pay for it. There are so many options. For me, for me and my husband, for me and my family.
Any have it and think it's worth it - or not?

What can I do next?

There is a mom on here who's husband sells it and appears to do very well with it. Hopefully she will chime in.

We do not have it, but I have considered looking in to it when we free up some of our funds this spring.

I don't have any personal experience with it. However, I do have a friend who owns a dog walking business and she has it.

Last year during an ice storm, she fell and crushed her ankle, her health insurance covered her and the AFLAC covered the money she was missing being unable to do the walks. She was not financially burdened during this time. It took her six weeks to recover.

I have it through my work also. I have accident, cancer, and specified illness. I have had it since 2008, but didn't really understand the perks until a few years ago. You can collect wellness benefits from AFLAC just from going to the doctor and getting a check up. That is $60-$75 dollars per checkup, per year, per person (if you have family coverage) also my husband slipped at work and twisted his ankle, that was considered an accident. Cracked his tooth, accident. Someone ran into him while in his company van, accident. And each time I filed with AFLAC I received a benefits check shortly after. Vision check-ups, you get a wellness benefit. I think it is worth it, but you have to know your policies and stay in contact with your rep so you know what you can file for. Hope that helps.

I had it for one year. It was not beneficial for me. I was young and healthy. I didn't use even my primary insurance that year except for my yearly checkup. If your family tends to get sick a lot and you tend to cap out your insurance it might be a good purchase.

I purchase AFLAC for myself and have for years. I started because I was self-employed and if I got hurt, I wouldn't get paid. I kept it because I don't have a lot of benefits through my employer and with special needs kids, our financial situation would be precarious if I were to get hurt and not get paid. That being said, I have had AFLAC for years and have only used it once - if I would have saved all those premiums, I'd have quite a bit of money saved up :)

I think that you just have to decide for yourself and what your personal risk factor is. A poster mentioned below that they are "young and healthy". That really isn't what AFLAC is for (unless you are talking about the critical illness or cancer policy). It is mostly for unexpected injuries that happened at home and end up affecting your ability to work (if you get hurt at work, that is a different deal). If you don't have a lot of paid sick days, or if you have to pay for daycare even if you aren't using it to keep your spot, or if you are really living paycheck to paycheck and getting hurt could cause you to lose your home or car, it is definitely worth checking out.

AFLAC is like any insurance - you pay even if you never use it, but when you need it, it is there.

Good luck!

it depends largely on what other insurance, if any, you have.
in some situations it's very worth it. in others not at all.
of course our health system, which was in disarray before, is in a panicked scramble now. you might be better off to wait a bit and find out what fresh hell is coming down the pike.
