A Little Bit Personal, but I Need Waxing Advice

Hi, Mamas-
I have a bit of a personal question, but I know I can always count on you fellow moms. I have always shaved my bikini area myself (otherwise I would look like a Sasquatch down there). Now that I almost 7 months pregnant, I can no longer see down there or bend over far enough with my big belly. I would like to maintain my standards of hygiene, so I am thinking about going somewhere for waxing. Can you recommend a good but reasonably priced place in the Plano, Allen, or Frisco area? Also, do I need to let the hair grow out a little before I go? As always, thanks for the advice.

Hi Kristin,

I very highly recommend the Face Place in Plano. They are located off of Park & Preston next to the Kroger. I've been going there since 1992. I haven't lived in Plano that entire time, so for a few years, I had to go to other places. I have never found another place that could even compare. The women are absolutely wonderful, and they always do a fantastic job. I get my eyebrows done every three weeks, so they are almost like family now. Their phone number is ###-###-####.

Check out Deb. She's located in Allen and she's great and best of all always on time and you're in and out. I've been to several places over the years and Deb is by far the best. Her prices are very reasonable to. She has no problem waxing while pregnant...I'm pregnant with my third and I've never had a problem. Several of my friends are nurses and we all go to her right before delivery as well so the nurses in the hospital don't have to shave you. I get razor burn really bad so i don't like to be touched with a razor. Good luck. Below is her website and you'll find her prices and number on there.

I know it may sound odd, but go to the JcPenney salon at Stonebriar. Ask for Soraya. (pronounced sore-eye-a) She is fantastic!!!! I will never go see anyone else. It is only $30 I believe.

I received a spa day for my birthday at Woodhouse Spa in Legacy Park so I scheduled myself a bikini wax there too. She did a great job -- really good facial too -- but I know this place is a little $$. I think it was $45 for the wax which isn't much more than I've paid in the past. I think her name was Sue (brain fart right now, she's a little Asian woman).
Yes, you will have to let it grow out some, ask them for advice on that. Be prepared for it to be a little sore /sensitive down there for a few days and ask her advice on caring it for your skin afterwards so you don't get ingrown hairs.
Good luck!

Hi K.!
I had the same problem, so what I did was to take a mirror into the shower and help me to see. Is cheaper than a waxing and less painful! The only problem is the fog, so keep clean in it until your done.

Hi K., Your hair needs to be about 1/4 inch long the day of your waxing. I am local in Plano and I do bikini waxing. Please check out my website at www.facialsbysandy.com. My prices are very affordable and my scheduling is very flexible.

Thanks,
S.

I go to a lady in McKinney at the Atrium Salon off Craig Drive. Her name is Robin and I can give you her number and email...the only problem is MOST of the time no one will wax you while you are pregnant...I know that you can get approval from your doctor, but even with that my lady still did not want to take any risks. Good luck! (And make sure you take 2 advil 30 minutes prior!) -Oh, also the hair has to be between 1/4 and 1/2 inch for the wax...but it can't be any longer. :)

Hi K.,

I don't have a recommendation on a place for you, but i do have a bit of advise. You're seven months pregnant, you're hormones are surging, you've got increased blood volume. As if bikini waxing wasn't painful enough, with the state you are in, you have no idea how much more painful it will be. Trust me, tried the same thing when i was 8 mo along. Even now, if i get it done, i make sure that it is at least two weeks before i'm about to start my period and that i take 4 advil. my two-cents...get it done, but take as much tylonol as the doctor will allow. good luck!

I can reccomend stonebriar spa. I know they are a little pricey, but sometimes you get what you pay for.(You don't want to get an ingrown hair.) They are located in Frisco on Legacy and 121. The lady who does my waxing is named Emily. Make sure since you have been shaving that you have 1/4 of 1/2 of an inch of hair. The waxing should last almost 4 weeks.
