My son is almost 3 years old and he has a white head in his ear and it is really hurting him, he crys if he actidentally touches it or if anone else touches it. He won't let me touch it or pop it. Does anyone have a suggestion to get this to go away on its own, or any other suggestions to help the pain.

What can I do next?

Have him put a warm compress on it. It will draw the infection to the surface and will come out on its own eventually.

Do not pop it on your own. We recently had this with my 9 yr. old. She had one on the face, the Dr. found it to be an infection but after an antibiotic, we discovered MRSA was in her school. The DR. then popped it testing the fluid, which turned out not to be MRSA, but because the DR. did it, it went away completely. Through all of that I found out that MRSA commonly starts out as a pimple. The DR. did say never to pop those kind on your own.

Hi T.,
Maybe you have already tried this, but usually a very warm wet washcloth held on the area will help the white head come out on it's own and relieve that pressure and pain. (I have a 3 yr old boy too so I know putting a washcloth repeatedly on the area isn't the easiest thing in the world to do :-) ) but I tried several different things with my older boy (he's 5 and had something similar on his face a year ago) and the very warm washcloth application was the only thing that worked for us.
I re-wet It (to get it very warm each time) several times and applied it for as long as I could get away with several times in a row and then did that several times a day. It went down within 2 days. Some easier times for me to do this was when they were in the bath and he was distracted by his bath toys or sometimes when watching a TV show.
Hope this helps some if you haven't already tried it....
Tami

For a few days if you could put a hot wet towel on it maybe it would come up and pop itself. If it gets closer to the surface you can try just neosporin. That doesn't usually work if the pore is closed (a white head) but works great on pimples.

Hello

Try a hot pack. Use a washcloth and the water temp. alittle past warm. (Test it on your arm because if it's too hot for them - They won't let you do it again- Trust me). And just place it on the white head for a few minutes and then repeat. After a few hours try it again. Eventually it will pop and they won't feel it.

This worked for my children especially in the ear and around it.

Do it while he is sleeping. After my dughter had her ears pierced she had changed earrings (after about 4 months) and they got infected but refused to let me touch them to take them out and put the gold ones back in because it hurt too much. I waited until she was asleep for the night and went in with all my stuff and a flashlight. She never woke up and didn't realize what I had done for a day or two :)

Hi T.,
A little Melaleuca oil might help placed on the white head, don't want it in the ear canal but a bit place on a cotton ball and placed on the white head might help. Congrats on your home based businesses. I have been setting up Melaleuca accounts myself of over 12 years.
Blessings,
S.

T. - Congratulations! Congratulations! Congratulations!

Have time for a cute story ... my daughter has a 3 yr old, well almost 4 this June and expecting her second this September. Story: a couple of months ago I called mid morning and caught my daughter uncontrollably laughing. When she could quiet down this is what she said. (She is an OB-GYN). Mom, we have a funny Staf infection going on here. Tons of women are coming in with boils on their pubic bones - not in 'private' areas but on or just above the pubic bones on the tummy. None of the docs could figure it out and this particular morning, Izzie (3 yr old) woke up with a boil on her pubic bone. My daughter grabs a scalpel, lances, drains and bandages it and the baby never fussed and said, 'Mama, thank you for helping me with my boo boo'.

My daughter tried to dress the baby and she refused to put any clothes on cuz she liked her new BLUE bandaid, found herself two MIS-matched blue shoes and was just going about her morning in her blue bandaid and two mis-matched blue shoes that made her walk funny, convinced she'd just made a new fashion discovery ... My daughter was losin' it... but of course didn't have any charged batteries for her digi cam. Oh well ... the mental picture will never leave me.

OK ... so the moral of this story is none and all I can do is to only suggest you try the same outfit (for yourself) and should someone ask what you're doing, just tell them you're wearing your sense of humor. (I'm sorry, now I'm crackin' myself up.) On a serious note ... I heartfully wish you and your baby happier moments and a smiley ear. Giggles, M
