Hi, I'm a 40 year old mother of a 2 year very smart girl. We've been living in San Jose for only 9 months and I'd like to get some advice on where to go with my daughter and husband to see the fireworks on july 4th and maybe get some nice dinner. I'd really appreciate your suggestions.

You can go to downtown San Jose for fireworks. There are many places you can go eat like Spaghetti Factory, Peggy Sue's, Sonoma Chicken, Flames, Tied House, Gordon Bierch, etc...

Go to Church on the Hill for the fireworks. 500 Sands Drive, San Jose. They have the best fireworks display in the county. And you get to see the city's fireworks because you are on top of the hill. There is entertainment all day and bouncy houses and fun things for the kids to do. As far as a nice dinner, you might have to go off the hill because I think they only serve fast food things.

R.,

Central Park in Santa Clara has fireworks and food booths all day long on July 4th. The location is Kiely Blvd Between Benton and Homestead. Across the street from the old Kaiser Hospital.

There are lots of things to see and do here on that day.
Bring jackets if staying for the fireworks. A wonderful experience.

Welcome to San Jose! Hope you are enjoying the city!

Not sure where in San Jose you are, but we are in east/north San Jose, and we always go to Milpitas to watch the fireworks. It's at the Sports Center on Calaveras. The admission is free. Gates open at 7:30, but we are there earlier to get a better seat. We spread out our blankets and camping chairs on the grass, eat our picnic, visit with friends, and enjoy the show. Here's a link to the information sheet: http://www.ci.milpitas.ca.gov/homepage_events/4thofjuly.pdf.
Let me know if you'd like more info. :)

I don't know about dinner because it depends on your preference... But there are a few options for fireworks. My family usually goes down to 10th street and parks near the San Jose Giants stadium to watch their fireworks display.... Suprisingly not many people are down there to watch them. I usually get there about 8:45 pm and get a good spot and have a GREAT view... My kids love it! We'll be down there again this year!

Go to Bennigan's Restaurant on Great America Parkway, take a blanket, and sit on the parkway to watch fireworks after dinner. Alot of folks do it and it is great fun.

Welcome to San Jose :) my family and I like to eat at Pasta Pomodora. It's very family friendly and the price is perfect. We pack a little desert in a cooler and park in a safe parking lot like a hotel or the Mariotts lot's of people do it and bring fold out chairs and sit outside and watch the fire works. Welcome to San Jose. Downtown SJ has a very nice program in Guadalupe Park next to the Discovery Museum. Take lightrail if possible because traffic and parking can be nightmarish. Usually downtown has activities all afternoon long then into the fireworks display. There are restaurants on Park Avenue in downtown and also San Pedro Square & along 1st street between San Carlos and East Santa Clara. Johnny Rockets is on 1st; Spaghetti Factory and Peggy Sue's Diner are in San Pedro Square, to name just a few.
Many years a go we took our then grade school children to Monterey for the fireworks there. There are lots of restaurants in the area and many are perfect for kids (Bubba Gumps for example). Stake out a spot on the pier. The city uses a floating dock for the fireworks and the show is completely coregraphed to great music. Come to think of it, I believe SJ's is as well. It's been awhile since we've gone...don't like crowds as much anymore.
