My honey was a sports hero in school, but he doesn't have anything to show for it. He doesn't have an old annual or any newspaper clippings. I know he set some records inhis hometown 20 years ago that still stand. Where are those records kept and how do I get a copy of them? It's sad that he has no old photos to remenisce over. We visited a buddy of his that pulled out box after box of stuff and i could tell it made hy husband wistful. I would like to give those years back to him. I've called his old highschool- no luck on the yearbook. I also checked on ebay didn't find any of his years. I called the local newspaper in his hometown. They have archived all old articles on cds at the local library. The library is 4 hours away and doesn't have staff to do that kind of research. So, I see no way around driving there and spending all day printing at 45c a page! Does anyone have an idea how I can pull together a scrap book and maybe find an annual for my husband. Might be helpful to know, he went to school in Coleman, TX and graduated in 1989. He spent his sophomore and jr yr in San Angelo and went to Odessa Jr College. He was a star in track and football. He was also in the Navy for 6 years and we don't have any of those photos either. Any ideas?
Facebook is a great idea, but he is on facebook. So, that would kind of deflate my surprise! Many Thanks to Betty O! Her link led me to the class historian. He happens to be the towns news photographer as well. He has compiled a book of 100 years of Colemans History. He has cds of all the games he played in and copies of the cds from old newspaper articles. Basically he has everything I need! He was so excited to hear from me and said he had thought about my husband often while compiling the book, since he was one of the best atheletes to come out of Coleman. I'm learning alot about my honey doing this. Very exciting. Thanks again to all of your advice and encouragement.
You can try Classmates.com. My high school has a few yearbooks out there. You could also try Classmates to see if you can find any of his old classmates that might be able to help you out. How about his old friend? Any chance he would have any contacts or could make copies for you?

Schools keep yearbooks & almanacs and some even ket local hero articles. that would be the first place I start. Also, you may be able to retrieve copies of articles by going to the websites of the local newspaper. Many newspapers have archived their files and for a small fee you can search and download them.

But good idea about FB. Someone might lend you theirs if you promise to return it.
If you do end up driving the 4 hours to the library, I would e-mail the goodies to myself & print then somewhere cheaper. Just make sure before you leave that the e-mails all went through. Facebook is a good tool. If you have to, make another facebook page and don't put your picutre or accurate info on it. And then just don't add your hubby as a friend. It's kinda sneaky but I think it will get the job done.

classmates.com has all of my high school yearbooks available. Libraries often times have old newspapers, call and ask a librarian, if they dont have the one you want she might be able to steer you in the right direction.
Private message some of his friends on facebook, that way it wont be on the wall where he can see it ;)
facebook...if people from his old hs are on. Put out the call that you will buy an old yearbook from that class if anyone is willing to sell it.
Otherwise, can you just borrow his friends so that you can take and get color copies?
I would suggest finding the alumni site/association for his high school and requesting stuff from people in his graduating class.

Who did you talk to a the high school? Back then, there is a possibility that the school might have ordered a couple extra yearbooks/annuals to keep around - something that isn't done much anymore since all the ordering and such seems to be done thru 3rd parties. You might just have to find somebody that's been there a while - maybe a retired office person even!
And if he set records, surely the school has that up to be shown in the trophy case or such! Might require going, but surely it could be copied.
