What would you do if you seen a bird on the ground that apparently flew into a window and broke its neck but still alive? At first glance I thought it was dead already, but then I seen it blink. A vet would laugh at me, im sure if I took it home it would die, but too leave it seems cruel.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I went and checked on the bird and it has passed. Poor thing, I know it would of been better to help it to the end but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

I am at work and i dont own or carry a gun for those inquiring.;-)

I would ask a man to take care of it.

Sorry if that's not ''feminist"....the best thing would be to step on its neck quickly and with force but i wouldn't be able to hear its little bones cracking without nightmares. This actually happened to me a few times, one time was a baby bird nest that my cat "found", it was awful. My Friend took them away and took care of it. I never asked questions. The other time a bird flew right into my house and died instantly and i had my brother take care of it.

I would leave it, but I'd be sad about it. Too many diseases can come from a bird. It will die. Remember, this is nature...primal, and instinctive. It's not HUMAN nature. Animals always die on their own in nature. I know, it's terribly sad...but, you are not actually being cruel to leave it...if you choose to do so. I personally, would not risk being exposed to the multitude of scary things birds carry.

There really isn't anything that can be done as awful as it seems. :( Unless it was an endangered species no one is going to come out and save it.

A vet won't laugh, when I worked at one we had a few severely injured wildlife that clients brought for euthanasia. There are also wildlife rescues that can take injuried animals.

A vet would laugh at you? That vet doc is cruel if they did that.
Your vet or humane society will know of a wild animal shelter that takes in injured animals and nurses them back to health.
We saw a baby bird that fell from its nest. We couldn't reach the nest so we took it to our wild bird shelter and they nursed it until it was old enough to fly and be set free.
Check those places. Also you may be able to google 'wild animal shelter" in your area.

I would take it home and try to fix it. Often they are just stunned for a few minutes after they fly into something, but then they recover.

I would also be so sad to see that. A broken neck wouldn't really be fixable in a bird, I wouldn't think. A broken wing is different. But, be very careful when dealing with wildlife. Did you hear about the man on vacation who tried to save a bird on the beach? It pecked out his eye.

They aren't tame, but naturally have a fear of man. Little birds probably won't hurt you though. ;)

No one should laugh at you for helping a little, hurt, wild animal.

There are wild animal groups that care for such animals if they can be helped. I once had a mama oppossum run over in front of our house and she had 12 nursing babies on her. I called a Vet who referred me to the local guy and he came out to pick the litter up. He was shocked at the size of the litter, the age of the pups, the location as they track such wildlife in the communities and they had been seeing a huge increase in oppossums that particular year.
