O.O.
I have lots of perfumes but I always go back to Ginger Essence by Origins.
Light, subtle--doesn't choke you like the really harsh things out there.
I am on the lookout for a refreshing/sweet smelling perfume. I do not like the flowery smelling kind and prefer something like vanilla or apple. Any suggestions?

I was just in Bath and Body Works today - they have a lot of vanilla scents and some apple scents, as well. One of my favorites there is Japanese Cherry Blossom. They had some great sales going on; my daughter and I spent way too much!! lol!!
Additionally, I've had a few long time favorites over the years - Anais Anais by Cacharel; Jessica McClintock; Red by Giorgio Beverly Hills and Tresor by Lancome.
I love perfume and there's hardly a day goes by without me wearing some kind of scent.
Fun question!!
Can't help you there...you asked what my favorites are...
Opium - the original
Imari - by Avon
Chloe
White Shoulders
If you are looking for vanilla or apple? Go to Bath & Body works...they have a lot of body splashes you might like!
Try essential oils.. you can get many in fruit scents and or vanilla , and they aren't overpowering. in some cases, you can mix your own.. many herbal stores sell them... they are nice because they are subtle...
Well, this is not vanilla or apple but I love Haiku by Avon. I have had SOOOooo many compliments while wearing this perfume. Once, I was gambling at a poker machine, and this younger guy walked up, paused, and asked what perfume I was wearing!! (I was surprised, as he was cute with a few others, and I'm a married woman with children). I told him "haiku" and he proceeded to make up a haiku for me on the spot! Totally made my night!! :D
I love perfumes with a vanilla base. However, I'm very conscious of the fact that many people have chemical sensitivities and allergies and that includes perfumes so I tend not to wear mine very often. I do love the Oil of Olay winter retreat vanilla scent, which is lovely and lasts a long time. It's got the bonus of being really moisturizing too. Apart from that I love the Warm Vanilla Sugar at Bath & Body Shop. I'll use the shower gel and hand moisturizer.
If I HAVE TO choose a perfume, I love my Oleander that I got from the Bermuda perfume factory. It has a touch of vanilla in it. [Yup, just confirmed it from the Bermuda Perfumery: "muguet, Bermuda Oleander, white orris, pink water lily and hibiscus intertwine with undertone of silkmusk, a hint of vanilla flower"]
I also love men and women's Obsession.
Some of the scents in the Philosophy line are lovely. Grace is one of my favorites, so it must have some vanilla in it. It's not overpowering, and has a lovely clean feel.
Oh... and there's one I always forget the name of... Bijan Women.
White Shoulders
But won't help you with the fruity/vanilla smell.
I love Anais Anais...I wear it almost everyday...
My favorite is jovan musk. I also love Chanel no5 and original Liz Clayborn.
love that i share my favey with jessica wessica! oleander from bermuda is my absolute favorite scent, both to wear and to joyfully encounter when i'm out and about in the world.
i myself much prefer spicy and floral scents to food ones, so my tastes won't match yours, i'm afraid.
i love anais anais, beyond paradis, and estee lauder's beautiful.
but my real favorites are blends of essential oils, worn in tiny tiny drops. i have some gorgeous ones that i hoard to the point of silliness- vampire garden (blood oranges and belladonna), burlesque (coffee and spices) and stretched out on your grave (cold green apples and cheerless white blossoms.)

I am not a connoisseur of perfume, however I love Caswell Massey's "Holy Smoke", which is a spicy and warm oil. Sadly, they've discontinued it. :(
That was 'my' scent for years and I'm so bummed it's not around any more.
Hope you find what you are looking for. I tend toward scents on the spicy side.
ETA: You inspired me. I actually emailed the company to ask them to bring it back-- or if they had a few extra bottles stashed. Great question. Sorry I don't have perfect answer for you!
I love bath and body works sprays n Victoria secret sprays
I love scents! I have over a dozen different body washes and lotions. my husband makes sure not to let me near our local Bath&Body. I'd spend a fortune!
I used to wear Ananya, but it was discontinued. I do have several oils in that scent that I was able to snatch up.
I prefer light fresh scents.
I'm with you on the flowery smelling perfumes. I prefer refreshing and cool scents that are light..but it also depends on how the perfume reacts with my body chemistry.
My 2 favorites are Coach (Coach) and Alabaster (Banana Republic). The Coach is a touch sweeter, warmer, perhaps a more romantic scent, whereas the Alabaster is cooler, and a bit more serious. I wear the one that reflects my mood on a daily basis. :)
Fun question!
Bath and Body works used to have a black raspberry vanilla that I loved. I don't know if they still do.
I am wearing the new spring fragrance by Cartier Eau de Toilette.
It is refreshing and light and for once something I am not allergic to!!
It is sold at Neiman Marcus and I think Nordstrom carries it now.
I am one with chemical and fragrance sensitivities but I do own 1 perfume and use a tiny drop of it on special occasions as I really like it. It's one that does not make me sick to wear it too. http://www.sephora.com/eau-de-cartier-P9863

My new favorite is Estee Lauder Sensuous Nude. Most perfumes give me a headache. This one doesn't. It is not flowery and has a vanilla base.
Personally, I can't be around women who wear perfume. I am super sensitive to perfume and I have to leave the room 99% of the time.
My favorite is Ralph Lauren Polo Sport, but I also really like Love Spell from Victoria's Secret.
My "special occasion" perfume is Rapture by Victoria's Secret. I don't wear it very often, I don't know if they even make it any more! I have some sensitivity to stronger florals like jasmine, gardenia, etc, so I can't stand those. If I wear something regularly it is usually an essential oil like lavendar, geranium, or something citrus. Cinnamon or peppermint in the winter. I've heard of people wearing straight vanilla extract! Smells like baking :)
Bath and Body Works used to have a ginger lime that I LOVED, but they discontinued it. I had a sales person tell me once that she thought it smelled a little like dirt. I thought...hmm, I kind of agree, but I like it!
ETA: Oh, Dana's post reminded me- Bath and Body Works has a seasonal scent, lemon vanilla, that is lovely!
I used to wear Issey Miyaki, a very light, floral.
Now, I only wear essential oil sprays from Aveeda. I especially like the Throat or Heart Chakra scents.
Jo Malone Orange Blossom is my absolute fave.
I also like Clinique "Happy" for for something not too overpowering, like work events. and Victoria's Secret "Very Sexy" for when I want to feel young and sassy again :)
Jo Malone.
Has great perfume.
But only certain stores carry it. I know Neiman has it. Maybe Nordstrom.
Or Creed.
Only certain stores carry this as well. Neiman I know carries it.
It is a pretty historic perfume house. From MANY years ago. They even make perfumes for royalty and celebrities.
Hanae Mori - The only place I can find it around here is Nordstrom's. My husband bought a bottle for me about 10 years ago, and I loved it so much, but used is sparingly. It lasted me a few years. I haven't bought it in years, but I did yesterday.
It does have a vanilla scent, but also a slight flowery smell as well. I haven't smelled anything like it before. Pretty pricey--the large bottle was about $100.
I also sampled the Hanae Mori #8, which is a limited edition, yesterday and it was also great.
I love all of the Philosophy "Grace" line: Amazing Grace, Pure Grace, Baby Grace...........they are all so clean and subtle.
My new favorite scent though is "See" by Chloe. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.
I wear Chanel Mademosell(sp). Love it. Very summery, floral. Yum!
