Hey mommas, I'm trying to figure out somewhere fun to go with my oldest girlfriend; we want to go on a weekend road trip together. She lives in Austin, I live here in Dallas. She absolutely needs activities (shopping) I'm more laid back so we're open for pretty much anything. We haven't had "quality" time since my daughter was born two years ago! Now my friend has a one-year-old boy. We wanna get away! Any suggestions? The kiddos won't be joining us, and neither are the husbands, and we aren't afraid to drink some wine! Thanks for your suggestions! K. H.

A fun weekend trip would be going to Jefferson (east Texas). They have a lot of antique shops and specialty stores and you could stay at a B&B and Shreveport, La is just 30 min. or so from there where you could do more shopping, and gambling (if you like). Enjoy! I am jealous.

Not sure how far you are willing to drive, but Shreveport is good for shopping and gambling. It is about a 3 hour drive from Dallas. The mall over there called Boardwalk reminds me of the one in Garland. (Firewheel) And, if you like margaritas, I reccommend a place called Superior Bar and Grill. (It's mexican) Good luck finding a cool place, I'm sure you and your girlfriend will have fun no matter where you choose. Have fun! Drink one for me. I hope to get away without the kids someday too.

Hi K.,

Have you thought about spending some time in Salado...some really fun shops and boutiques, they have a Christmas Stoll every year...I am sure that there is a restaurant to drink wine around there....I know One of the main restaurants closed, but you could probably find some information on line....if you don't know much about it, I'm sure you can find some info on Google...it is a quaint little town. Of course if you want to go further there is always Fredricksburg.

I am with Kelly. My husband and I went to Salado when he was working in Corpus and I was still in Dallas for a friend's wedding. It has just enough shops for an afternoon of shopping and is not too busy. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express there off of I-35. It is new and very nice - and pretty inexpensive. They had a lovely pool area with tables and seating for afternoon/evening chats. We will be back for sure and meet up with friends/family since we are now in Corpus and everyone is still in Dallas.
