Does watching true blood makes me a bad mother? I watch the tv show true blood after, my daughter goes to bed. My ex said, I am bad mom and role model for my daughter because I watch this show. I also watched twilight and read paranormal romance novels since middle school. can I still read paranormal romance novels after having kids?

What can I do next?

At first I thought your question was a joke but I notice you are a a real mom from your other questions. Why would this make you a bad mother?? Do you go out and imitate these books and shows? Do you enjoy talking about the sex and violence with your middle school daughter? Unless there is something else going on, your ex is nuts. Do you think you are a bad mother? I love True Blood and Dexter too. I read all the Twilight books along with 1/2 of America. I am a phenomenal mother!

Do you REALLY think that what this man says has merit? Do you have so little self-esteem left after what surely was a dismal marriage?

Look back on your life before this man turned you into a self-doubting sad woman who can't think for herself. Did you believe in yourself then? Could you think through issues and make good decisions before he came in your life?

Please go get some counseling. You really need some help to see where this man messed up your head. And you need to learn to ignore this no good SOB. If you don't learn to do that, he will use ANY excuse (like these lame lies he is telling you) to make you doubt yourself in ANYTHING you do. Don't let him.

how could watching something or reading something after your child is asleep possibly make you a better or worse parent? Did you OMG have sex ever when she was asleep? Guess what MILLIONS, no BILLIONS of parents have had omg, sex, while their children were asleep. I can't imagine reading or watching something is more graphic then the actual act.....

No, watching it does not make you a bad role model or bad mom. If you were acting out what the characters were doing (or watching with your children), then yes, you'd be a horrible role model and bad mom.

I used to love that show. I am choosing not to watch it anymore. I don't miss it. (Rather than get sucked into watching mindless TV, I read books I really want to read.)

There is a book series called BOUNDARIES by Dr. Henry Cloud & Dr. John Townsend. Maybe you need to establish some boundaries with yourself and not share so much with your ex. Granted, he probably knew it because you were doing this while you were together. But you don't owe him any explanations now. Just bland, nice, noncommittal responses.

"How's it going? Are you still watching those dumb shows?"
"Eh, not really. Lost interest..."

Hopefully he'll get the message and know he can't work you up anymore once he sees and feels your boundaries are up and active.

Your ex sounds like a complete idiot! No offense. When your daughter is in bed you can watch whatever you want to watch, it does not change who you are as a person. I would not let anything this person says get to you...they obviously are just trying to get to you...don't let them!!!

I agree, idiot, whatever you want to watch when your kids are in bed is your business. I watch lots of things that are not kid appropriate, I do it when I am alone or when they are in bed, I am an adult and I can make my own choices! You too! Dont let an idiot question your mothering skills! I'd say he's the bad role model for being so critical.

Oh, good grief. Your ex is a creep, which you obviously know, since he is now your ex. I could eat Eric with chocolate sauce! And I'm hooked on the Buffy and Angel series (yay Spike!)

If you were watching WITH your daughter, that would be an issue. :P

Stop sharing the tiny details of your life with him. He is no longer someone to share them with.

Your ex is an idiot!

And WHY are you sharing so much information with him? I can see discussing your CHILD'S reading and viewing tastes with him, but WHY share your own with him?

Let us "bad moms" unite then!! I am counting the days for the new season of True Blood! I love the Twilight series and I can't wait to read 50 Shades of Grey. From time to time, I do read romance novels and every Friday or Saturday night I unwind with a glass of wine or three! I'm sure your ex has watched worse!!!

If I knew your ex I could probably come up with at least 10 things that make him a worse father for doing them-I guarantee you. In the scheme of things our TV choices have no correlation with our mothering skills. HOWEVER.....IMO the MALE choice of watching games on TV all weekend long DOES correlate with how good a father he is. So if your ex watches sports I would let him know this.

The only way it would be bad is if you watched it with her or forced her to watch. You are an adult and are entitled to do adult things - responsibly. Just like you can go to R rated movies as long as you don't bring your ten-year-old along... ;)

I don't see how your TV show choices affect your parenting abilities. Your ex is doing everything he can to make you insecure and you're falling for it. A good mom could make the not-so-good-choice of allowing their child to watch True Blood with them, but you're not doing that. PS-I love that show!!

How could watching a TV show after your child is in bed make you a bad mother?

It sounds like your ex is a complete idiot and listening to anything he says will only make you lose a few smart points yourself. Do yourself a favor and don't pay attention to anything he says.

LMAO!!! (sorry) I couldn't help that....... ok, now an answer. NO!! You are NOT a bad Mother! I watch True Blood whenever it's on, and it is always AFTER my youngest 2 kids are in bed since the show starts at 9pm. I buy the seasons on DVD when they are out, ohh, I even pre order them. Those I sometimes watch when my kids are awake but are doing something else in another room and are not with me. Maybe I am a bad Mom too? LOL! I have read ALL of the books that the series is about, and actually preorder them before they are even released. I just got the newest one, I believe it is the 12th one, yesterday. I am half way through it already. My younger 2 kids know that I watch the show, but they also understand that it is an "adult" show. My 18 and 21 yr old daughters watch with me.. and my hubby. It is something that the 4 of us enjoy doing together as a family. It is ENTERTAINMENT. As long as you are not allowing your little ones to watch something inappropriate, then you are doing NOTHING wrong. Sounds to me like your ex is looking for ways to get you upset. Don't let him succeed. I am certain he will continue this for the rest of your lives, and will find other things to tell you that you do wrong. Please be confident Mama............... you are not doing anything wrong by wanting to relax and enjoy a fictional show! Enjoy!! TRUE BLOOD is awesome! :)
