Hi Moms, We were considering switching our phone service from AT&T to Vonage. I know there used to be some issues with the quality of Vonage (2 people couldn't talk at once) but I understand this is no longer an issue. I am wondering if any of you out there have it and what you think. Also, is it truly $25 a month? Are there lots of taxes and fees that make it more than that? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I have a friend with Vonage and when I talk to her the quality is not good a cell phone is better. Yes the one way speaker I have experienced, it is echoy and the volume is off - too loud on quietest on my 5.6ghz cordless where I have no problem when I speak with others.

Also, if you have/plan to get an alarm system there can be issues hooking it up (it needs a land line) and I am told that even if they can do it; there is still a delay.

Comcast Digital Voice usually runs about the same price special for the first year and then you call and ask for the retention department to get a decent deal after. Also, AT&T has the new stuff out & is offerring very good deals.

We've had it for almost two years and had very few problems. My parents have had it longer and they've had no problems. We do the $14.95 (the non-unlimited) plan and our total cost winds up to be just under $22/month. Even if we go over on the mintutes it is still less than the total cost on the monthly. You can got to vonage.com and figure out exactly what your monthly bill will be, based on the plans you're considering.

VOIP can be problematic when you attempt to call 911. Of course, Vonage will tell you otherwise.

We had it for a couple of months and then discontinued our service. The quality was not very good - we could hear fine, but the people calling never had a good connection. It also affected our internet connection and no one (Vonage or our internet provider) could figure out why. We ended up doing a package with Comcast for cable, internet and phone that ended up being more economical.

It really is cheaper and that is why we have used it for almost 2 years. However lately we have been having problems with it and it seems to affect our internet connection. We know this because when we unplug the VOnage, the internet works fine.

But I think we have been lucky because we really didn't have problems until recently. I have a couple friends who tried vonage and had issues so cancelled pretty immediately.

I am hearing some mixed reviews lately and honestly, we probably won't stick with Vonage long just because it doesn't seem as reliable. But the price is great!

vonage does not support 911 calls in some areas. Make sure your zip code is covered through Vonage.

I like it just fine--unless the internet (we have Comcast) goes out and then you can't use your phone. There are a few hassles, but it really is cheaper. I think that after taxes, we pay about $30. You get all the features thrown in for free too--call forwarding, call waiting and a host of other stuff. All in all, if you're trying to save money, it's a good plan.
