We use vonage. It saves us tons of money, great customer service-I've always been able to get someone on the phone. I use verizon for my internet and have had far worse time with them. Go for it!

Hi R.,
We have had vonage for about 3yrs...love it. There is rare occassion you have to "reboot" the modem box, which is just a matter of flicking a switch on and off. But to save the amount of money we save every month...I'll deal with the little quirky issues.
Good luck,
T.

Hi R.,

I have Vongage, and I love it. It has plans similar to a cell phone, where you could choose a minutes plan, versus unlimited calling all over the US and Canada. I have the unlimited plan for less than $30/month, and I get to call my sis in Canada every weekend, and not worry about long distance charges. It's great!

If you're certain that you'll have internet all of the time, then this is a great choice. The following reasons are why I love Vonage:

1) If, for some reason you have a power outage, you can preset an alternate number where the calls will automatically be forwarded if your Vonage box is down.

2) If you have lots of family living accross the country somewhere, and calling you is long distance for them, Vonage has a virtual number option. You can get a "virtual" number installed with the area code from where your family is (or any area code you like). They call that number locally, and your phone rings wherever you live, without them having to dial long distance. I think it's only $5 more/month.

3) When you move, no matter where in the US, you can take your phone number with you.

4) You can use whatever house phone you already own.

If you do choose Vonage, try to start your service on the day of the month when you'll want to pay your bill, because Vonage does not have an option for you to make the payments yourself. They auto debit your bank, which is nice, if you have it set up to come out of your budget at the correct time of the month. The day you intend to call to inquire, and decide to open an account, that is the day the Vonage will choose as your monthly payment day, so choose wisely.

Good luck!

Mari

We have Vonage and have had it for nearly 5 years now and we love it! The fixed pricing makes my bill easy to predict every month and it's inexpensive $24.99 a month for unlimited calling and all the features of other services plus more! We even moved and it was easy to take our phone and number with us! You won't be disapointed! If you would like to send me your e-mail address I can send you a coupon for you to save money and I will get a small credit for reffering you! Let me know. Good luck! R.

Same here. We've had no problems with Vonage and we're saving lots. They also have some cool features like getting your voicemail emailed to you.

I would suggest it. If you personally know someone who has Vonage, ask that person to refer you and they and you get a free month I believe.

We got Vonage during a move so that we could bring our old phone # with us. The quality is spotty. Audio is crackly and sometimes calls get dropped right in the middle. When we decided to cancel and go with an internet phone bundled with our internet and cable, we got slammed with fees for canceling. It ended up being cheaper keeping it for a full year than canceling before the year was up.

Our daughter got it because it was the cheapest option for her to have a land line. Her cell phone doesn't work at her apartment. Again, the audio is terrible and we are often disconnected while talking to her.

I will add that we are in Southern NH too, like Robyn F. (hi, girl!). Maybe it IS the area.

Hopefully other folks have better reports.

We had Vonage for about a year and hated every minute of it. It rarely worked right - the buzzing was terrible. We could barely hear or be heard. Customer service was the worst experience yet. It was nearly impossible to speak to a live person let alone cancel the service. We now just use our cell phones and don't have a land line at all.

We've had it for a few years, and it works fine as long as your cable is up and running. We have comcast and when they get spotty your phone is also out. Cell phones are good backups for vonage. The only thing i have noticed is that the people listening to you sometimes hear a beep noise, like a call waiting sound. Other than that, it's great.

Right now comcast has a special package for $129.99 that includes phone, internet, and cable. I'm not sure if the taxes bring it up higher (probably) but take a 2nd look at what you're paying for internet and cable, it might be cheap to get their phone package.

We have had Vonage for about 6 months without any problems. One thing nobody mentioned was the fact that 911 doesn't work the same with Vonage. I'm not quite sure what the deal is, I think it's just not connected (sorry-I'm very technology-challenged) to 911, I do know you have to give the operator your address, it doesn't just come up like with regular land lines. Sorry, I know this is not so informative, but it is something you might want to look into. :)

We have Vonage and are pleased with it. We make calls to Europe a lot and those are included in the monthly flat-rate. Rates to other areas are more reasonable as well. As others have mentioned, occasionally the connection is bad and so you have to call again and it's usually much better after that.

Someone mentioned that 911 calls don't go to the local authorities. I believe that issue has been corrected. Vonage couldn't accept more customers until it corrected the issue and so has done.

We have Vonage and its been great. All calls to US and Canada are free and we haven't had any problems with it. It's pretty inexpensive too. You just have to buy the router (I think we got it at Best Buy) to set up the system so that all your phones will be connected to the service. We've been pretty happy with it.

We have had Vonage Phone Service for almost two years and are completely happy with it. We have the unlimited plan which is around $25 a month. The only problem we ever had was the little vonage box was located under our desk and occasionally someone would accidentally kick it and knock the cord loose but not notice it. The first time this happened it took us awhile to figure out why our phone wasn't working. Now we know to just make sure the cord is plugged into the box if there were ever a problem. We have recommended the service to several friends who are also happy with it.

We've had it for over 2 years and never had a problem with it. One nice thing about it which we remembered when DH unplugged the modem, is that it will forward your calls to your your cell or other #. And a really nice thing is that we are not listed (and don't have to pay to not be listed) so we never get sales calls. It's cheap.

My parents have Vonage and love it..like someone else said every once in awhile thier cats will hit the cord and unplug it so then they dont have phone service until they plug the cord back in..aslo if your internet goes out then you won't have phone service either...the sound is clear though and you can still get features like voicemail and call waiting. They bought a special Vonage phone but you don't have to.

I have Vonage and while the price is great, friends and family have been telling me I sound muffled and that they hear a buzzing noise when they talk to me. I've tried switching phones and it seems to be the service. Also I can not use the phone at all when downloading/uploading anything. Apparently I sound completely scrambled at those times, however it may just be my area! Good luck!

I don't remember all the details, but my brothers family switched service to this company and it was a mess. The company promised them things,(like no disruption in service)then didn't hold up to it. They "deal" wasn't as it had been verbally offered to them and in the end they never had a single day of service with the company, but were fighting a HUGE bill for months. It was ridiculous.
If you need more details - I can check in with them and get them for you - I just know they were upset for months and no one could believe what this company was putting them through - and trying to charge them for when they never received a service from them.
So, be careful is my feedback.

Not sure where you live but here in southern NH most people I know that have digital (or anything other than good ole regular) phone service hate it. I know also that being on the other end of a digital phone service call is sometimes worse than a cell phone. Maybe it's the area, I don't know. I would be very interested in finding a cheaper home phone service (I have the cheapest Verizon plan and no out of state long distance and I still pay nearly $50/mo) but have been very hesitant considering my friends experiences with digital.

I have vonage along with my sister and my parents. None of us have any had any issues with it except that since we have cable internet, when the cable goes out so does the phone, but with cell phones, it's no big deal. We even have the $14.99 plan which gives us 500 minutes and we have never gone over our limit.
I would definitely recommend vonage!

We have Vonage and LOVE it! Since we are military, we move alot. This way we can keep in touch with family (I call my parents at least once a day if not more) and our other military friends who are also moving. This makes it possible. We did upgrade the modem when we signed on, and havent had any problems. I would highly recommend it! I would be happy to answer any questions...

Hi,

We have had it for over a year now and love it! The disruptions in service that msot people are complaining about has been due to the internet service provider, Comcast in our case. This will be a problem with any voice over internet phone service if the internet goes down. If the service does go down, you can have the calls auto-forwarded to your cell phone, so you don't miss anything. You can also have the calls ring on your cell phone as well as your home phone if you choose. It is so cheap at $24.99/month for unlimited calling to all 50 states, Canada, Puerto Rico, and some coutries in Europe. This also includes caller id, call waiting, call forwarding, and voicemail. You can get your voicemail messages by calling in, as e-mail attachments, on the Vonage website, on transcribed into text meassages sent to your cell phone. You can sign up right on their website. The first month is usually free. I hope this helps.

I've used Vonage for 4 years now. We've never had a problem. The only frustration was when we first moved over and wanted to keep our same phone number. AT&T dragged it's feet and it took over a month to transfer the number. Since then, it's been a great service and a real savings. We use the $15.00/month plan and have never needed more minutes.
