Visiting San Jose, CA

I'm trying to put together a trip to visit my SIL in San Jose, but it looks like we will have to do it in late July/early August.

I know I could just "Google" this, but considering recent years' weather has been wonky, I'd like some first hand opinions.

Will it be very hot there during that time? 80s? 90s?

What are some nice things to do there? My SIL doesn't get out much, so I'm not really sure that she'll have a whole lot of input on family-fun activities.

Any hotel recommendations?

What can I do next?

I live about an hour south of San Jose on the coast and it's been a very dry, warmer than usual Spring. I would think it'll be 80-90s in San Jose most of this summer.

There's a lot to do:
Tech Museum
Children's Museum
Santana Row
Happy Hollow Park & Zoo
Bike path along the creek
Los Gatos is a pretty little town nearby
Gilroy Gardens
Great America

The Santa Cruz Mountains-
Big Basin State Park
Roaring Camp Railroad

Check out Tripadvisor.com for more info. Have fun!

I found San Jose to be surprisingly cool temperature wise. I was there end of June and was freezing the whole time. Of course MY freezing is anything under 70 degrees. Most houses there don't even have air conditioning because it only gets hot enough to warrant it a few times a year. So, pack jeans as well as shorts.
We went the Winchester Mystery House. That was so interesting!
The Children's Discovery Museum was fun.
we went to Big Basin Redwoods forest.
There was another place we really liked, can't remember the name, it had a playground that was really neat, some small amusement park rides, some animals...
San Francisco is not that far away from San Jose so you can do a day trip to there too.

San Jose is cool in the morning but will likely be in the 80s in the summer.

More votes for:
Tech Museum
Gilroy Gardens
Children's Museum
Happy Hollow

All of those have been hits with our kids.

Winchester Mystery House
Children's Museum
6 Flags theme park in Santa Clara (if your kids are into thrill rides)
Happy Hollow (good for younger kids... maybe 8 and under)

You could head over the hill and go to the beach in Santa Cruz. They have a fun boardwalk there. We also went to a cool Redwood forest in the area that had a train ride up the mountain.

Weather-wise, it's hard to say. We have had a VERY hot spring in Southern CA and haven't had the cool, cloudy mornings that we're used to at this time of year. Obviously, San Jose can be different since it's a few hundred miles away, but weather patterns tend to be similar - if it's unseasonably warm/cold/wet/dry in SoCal, they tend to have the same in Northern CA.
