Valentine's Day Ideas

I made my son a valentines day box just like we used to make back in school ya know out of a shoe box...I decorated it when he was just months old and have given it to him every year since with little trinkets (stickers, a love note from me, balloons, bubbles, crayons...etc) and maybe a piece of candy this year....LOL....I keep it out of sight all year and this year when we were putting the holiday stuff away he saw it and went CRAZY...he KNEW it was for him asking when it was going to have stuff in it and what not ...made me smile that he remembered something so small...he's only 2.5.

When my kids were young I bought them a stuffed animal. a couple of helium filled ballonsand some valentine candy. I tied the baloons to the stuffed animals and placed everything on their bed. The looks on their faces when they saw it was like Christmas morning in February! The loved it.:)

Let them play in some shaving cream at a low table where they can stand. Add some red food coloring so they can see the process of the color change. This is developmentally appropriate and also using their large and small muscles, sense of balance and sensory integration.....pretty good activity huh?

Make valentine cut out cookies with them. My girls loved doing that and it made the day special...

Have the 3 year old help you make heart shaped pancakes for breakfast.

let them make valentines with you using contact paper and doilys for all your frinds, they will enjoy the time spent with you much more than gifts. and they will enjoy giving their valentines to your family members (and grandma will enjoy it too)

Heart Confections are fun. A 3 year old can easily help make heart shaped cookies or cupcakes decorated with hearts. The 1 year old would be very happy to test the icing to make sure it tastes good. Homemade Valentines crafts such as using the kids hands to make heart shapes...either two overlapping palms or put two fists together in paint and decorate cards or mugs!

Homemade valentines ROCK! Who wouldn't love them? OR what about baking some heart shaped cookies for an elderly, alone neighbor or friend and then delivering them to brighten their day?

Rice Krispie Treats are hands on fun for little ones. They can decorate them, you can cut them into hearts and they don't break easily. Pair that with a homemade card and you've made loads of family members and friends happy! Take loads of pictures.

My son is 2 1/2 and this year we will be making homemade Valentines. I have always felt that Valentine's Day is yet another day to show those that we love that we LOVE them (not really a holiday). I usually don't do gifts on Valentines Day and try to make it about showing love and appreciation for each other. I find that with ALL the holidays that we already have to celebrate, making the "little" ones about loving one another really counts. The earlier we teach our kids that some holidays are just about telling people that you love/care about them will make the years to come that much easier and less of a pain in the pocket book! :)

This is what I'm gonna do w/ my almost 2 & 5 yr old daughters. I'm gonna go to a party store, get a few decorations (pink heart mylar balloons, cute valentines, napkins, plates & cups) and involve them in making valentine's cupcakes w/ me. Then, when daddy comes home, we'll eat the cupcakes on the decorated table. I might also get them a small gift (candy or something). I just want to do something that differentiates the day from others, but not over-do it. Enjoy the day!!

Hi, at that age you can have a Princess visit come to you. Look at Butterfly Dreams, theme parties for kids, they do all types of parties and there princess visit is really nice, you could gather a few of there friends to come over and enjoy the visit.

How about hiding choc kisses around the house before they wake up....then they get to search around before school. We always exchanged valentines as a family at dinner....it is especially fun for the little ones who don't go to school. They love to get a stack too.

A couple of years ago-We played a game like Blue's Clue where I put red hearts on doors,cabinets, stove, dryer, etc... and inside I had hidden some small surprise.My son loved looking for treasures during the day.
You can always decorate sugar cookies.
