Would you buy a mattress/box springs from someone if it looked to be in great condition (and per the seller was hardly used for only 2 months....no stains) but was stored in the attic?? I have a worry about it being in the attic for 6 mths. Will the mattress have small bugs or mites living in it that I wouldn't notice at first glance? Am I being silly?

I wouldn't buy a mattress used unless I knew the seller, like a family member. That's just one of those things...

Nope. I love buying used things - cars, wood furniture, books, CDs, dishes, even. But not mattresses. You could absolutely be bringing small bugs or mites in your house with it.
No No No! You can't ensure it doesn't have things in it because it's fabric. Also, with it being stored in an attic, there could be insulation embedded in it.

I have bought one used set from a friend. She was a pretty clean person but still they had been stored for a while in the bedroom, sitting up but not being used.
But still. They sit in the stores for who knows how long, they get bounced on and laid on by people you don't know, they have hair from someone laying on them, all that anyway. A person should use a mattress pad to cover them and then sheets on top of that. If they don't use the mattress as a sheet then the mattress is really not a big deal.
If you really needed it and could only afford it then you'd buy it and put a plastic cover from walmart on it then and use it gratefully.
How was it stored? We stored mattresses encased in plastic to keep those things out. Otherwise, no, I think I'd pass on it.
