Tubal and Periods (Gross, Sorry)

I had a tubal right after my youngest was born (June 2007), and things definitely took a while to even out for me with cycles. In fact, this past cycle for March was probably the most normal I've had since! First, I breastfed for about 3.5 months, so it took about 6 weeks after weaning my baby to get a period. The first was very heavy with lots of cramps. The two after that were very long cycles for me - about 35 days. This past period was the most "normal", like the pre-tubal days, in terms of PMS symptoms and length. I was always someone who got VERY bloated and full of awful PMS symptoms, even before kids, so those are still happening, of course! But I did notice that it took a while for things to return to "normal", even though nothing is normal after kids. Your body is getting back after being pregnant, then the tubal on top of it requires a little extra time to adjust, in my opinion and experience. If you feel like you're having totally different periods than before your youngest was born, give your dr. a call and maybe she'll have some more light to shed on it. Hope this helps!

Sorry to hear about everything that you have been going through! Unfortunately, the only advice I have is to contact your OB. Mine is absolutely GREAT and I would have every confidence that he has either heard of your symptoms, or had a patient with them already. The person that you trust to assist with your prenatal, labor, and delivery care is the person you should seek help from.

I have 4 sisters almost all in the 40's now. We luckily talk openly about the changes we have experienced throughout our child bearing years. 4 our of 5 of us have the stringy mucusy discharge while ovulating. Oh yes wiping is a joy during that period of my cycle. 3 of the 5 women have had tubals after giving birth to our last. The one obvious path the three of us have had to take since our tubal is to have an ablasion. This procedure thins out your uterus wall and removes the large clots and heavy flow days of our period. I would definitely call your ob about not getting a period. You should be getting your period regularly. The only time we 5 miss is if we get too thin or are severely stressed. Good luck!

Hi-- I had a tubal at the same time my daugther was born by c-section in December of 2005. I experience some of the same discharge that you explained, but right at the tail end of my period. It lasts about 2 days or so. Not sure what it is, but assumed it was because of the changes form having the procedure. Havent brought it up with my doctor either. Good luck--!! J.

S.-my first advice is to see your gynecologist. My thought is that you might have some uterine fibroid tumors developing. I have some (have also had a tubal ligation), and actually had a lot of bleeding, almost all month. Some of it large clots of blood (gross, yes), and a lot of pain nearly all the time. What I ended up doing, as my tumors are imbeded in my uterine wall and difficult to remove completely, was to start taking a low dose birth control pill. That has completely eliminated the pain and the bleeding. I also no longer menstruate, due to the pill. It's annoying to take a pill after having a tubal, but it made such a positive change in my life, that it's worth it. I'm 48, and "hoping" to go through menopause soon so I no longer have to take the pill, or deal with the tumors. Good luck. I hope it's quickly and easily resolved
