I had a Tubal Ligation with my 3rd child during a C-Section
I have noticed heavier bleeding, cramping and just some changes in me,
that Im wondering is this from the tubal? I also had really bad Post-Partum Depression
with my last son and was treated with medication.
(I and We feel we made the right decision to have no more children)

What can I do next?

My periods are definitely worse after the tubal. Even different than when I wasn't on any birth control. I don't know if it has anything to do with it or not. I tried researching it and didn't really find anything?

I haven`t had a tubal but I do have 3 kids and after each one-my periods were all different! My worst was after my second child-my third baby is alot better...So maybe its just after having your children.

I had a tubal done after my 4th child. I don't regret it but I'm having the same problems that you are. I believe it is from the tubal. It may be the depression but I also had post-partum as well. I know that as soon as the surgery was done my menstrual cycle went hay wire. I don't know if that helped you. I just thought I would let you know that your not alone with your symptoms from the tubal.

My whole cycle was way off. There was actually a period of time where I was always spotting at minimum, sometimes heavier. My doctor put me back on birth control just to regulate my system. A year later she had me come off, and for the next 6 months was always late - to the point that we kept taking pregnancy tests. After some careful tracking, we discovered that I was at a 6 week cycle. There was some discrepency with the measured due date and the date calculated date that lead us to believe that it had been 6 weeks prior to the pregnancy. The constant bleeding prior was a little off though.

I was treated for post-partum depression prior to the tubal, so it was felt that it was unrelated to the tubal. We to, feel that we made the right decision, even though we would also like to have a third child.

I'm sorry to hear you're going through this. I, too, had a tubal ligation at the time I had my son (in April of this year) by c-section. I did not have cramping, bleeding or post partum depression (but I am breastfeeding too and I think it helps alleviate PPD). I am not sure if what you're experiencing is directly related to the tubal, the c-section, the hormones from having a baby, or perhaps, and I hate to say it, the surgeon. Sometimes you can have difficulties just because something wasn't done right. You should definitely see your healthcare provider for a follow-up and for more information and help. I hope you feel better soon.

I also have had three c-sections and a tubal with my last one, Before that I used to have very light periods, about three days and that was it, no cramping, nothing. After the last c/ tubal I started having very heavy periods and alot of cramping and clots, This went on for a very long time and I became anemic, so I consulted my gynecologist who suggested I have a proceedure called NovaSure. It is done usually in the office or at the hospital on an outpatient basis. My last period was Nov 2007 and I have the proceedure done On 12/07/____@____.com took only about 3 hours start to finish and I have a lot of cramps right after but then about 3 hours later I was fine and I have not had one single period since, no bleeding , no cramps, no anemia. I would highly recommend this proceedure, since you won't need a period anymore , it's really great not worring about when I will get my curse., and yes you know what I mean when I say curse. Well goood luck, hope this helps. K. G Royal Oak

I had a tubal ligation some 20 years ago as our obgyn advised strongly against having any more children.
Our first childs birth was touch and go for not only the baby, but myself also. The same happened for our second child 3 years later. The doctor told us we should not try to have anymore children and tubal ligation was preformed during a c-section at the delivery of my second child.
I did not experience any heavier flow than usual or cramping.
I did find it an emotional time as I knew I would have no more children of my own and I was only 26 at the time.
I feel some depression could be triggered by that thought in the back of your mind not being out of the question.

I haven't had one but I know of a website which talks about post-tubal ligation syndrome that you might be interested in: www.tubal.org

I hope that helps answer some of your questions. I would definitely talk to your doctor as well in addition to checking out the site.

Hi. I'm getting the Essure tubal done in 3 weeks. After having few periods because of the Mirena IUD I have now, it will be a shock to get periods again.

I had a TL after my youngest daughter's C-section birth in '04. I, too, experienced incredibly heavy periods for about two years. My body has now kind of self-regulated and I get one heavy day and about 3 lighter ones. The biggest change for me is that my periods are about 24 days apart. I was on the pill forever and, obviously, very regular at 28 days, so it seems to come around very quickly each month. I kind of assumed that this is just my body's natural cycle. I always ovulated around day 9 or 10, so it makes sense.

Just wanted to let you know that things improved for me with time. My GYN offered to put me back on the pill to calm things down, but I chose to just tough it out. She never suggested that it was due to the TL, and, until reading all these mama posts about it recently, I thought the changes were due to my thyroid condition.

Good luck! L.

I had a TL after I had my second child, over a year and a half ago. I have much heavier bleeding, I started to lose my hair at a much faster rate then usual and I started spotting heavily when I was ovulating. I found out there is a condition called PTLS (Post Tubal Ligation Syndrom) . Basically your are not getting enough progesterone. I have started using a progesterone cream, and am almost back to nornal now. If you would like more information, please feel free to email me.

Same story here...three kids, then a tubal, and TERRIBLE ppd...now my periods are crazy bad. From a medical standpoint it makes no sense that what doc does to the tubes would affect the edometrial lining, but sometimes docs don't have ALL the answers, either.

You could always check into endometrial ablation for period control.
