TTC Second Child

I tried for almost a year to get pregnant with my now 4 year old. We were starting the testing process and I had the HSG and got pregnant naturally the next month. Now after trying to get pregnant with our second child for almost 3 years, we are striking out. I went to my OB/GYN, after a year and she had me on clomid for 5 months. My cycles are longer, so looking back, we were not having intercourse on the correct days. We did not have insurance to cover infertility until almost a year ago and I started going to MFC. I had surgery last Sept. to remove scar tissue, and do an ovarie drilling. Then after 3 months of clomid and IUI, I was still not pregnant. So the next step was IVF. After my first cycle in March of this year, I was pregnant, but miscarried in May. I went through a second IVF cycle in July/August and was unsucessful. I am waiting for my next cycle and will try for a third round. I feel like I am overconsumed by all this, and very anxious. Do you have any suggestions that might help me with this 3rd cycle? My doctor is changing my meds this time around and has suggested transferring more embryos. Thanks.

What can I do next?

I went to MFC when we were trying to have my Daughter. I also spent some time in 'fertility' counseling. The main point that they stressed is that even thou modern medicine can work 'miracles' we have to remember than sometimes it is just not meant to be. I'm not saying that means you should quite, it just means that you have to be willing to accept the possible losses with the possible gains.

We got lucky and somehow got pregnant on our 1st and 2nd round of IVF. (lost the 1st one at about 6 weeks the 2nd resulted in a beautiful baby girl) With the success we decided not to go through that for a second child, leaveing it up to the powers that be. (also I was high risk, and ran into so complications during delivery. Myself and the baby almost didn't make it.)

The only thing I can really say is try to relax. Cut out as much caffine as you can, and enjoy your daughter.

There is a fertility website called Resolve that you can go to for advice and suggestions, I know it was helpful for me when we were going through it.
Good luck!!

I know it isn't easy but try hard to not stress out. In the general population, up to 75% of embryos are not chromosomally normal and so they will either not implant or they miscarry. There is a balance between using more embryos and risking a multiple birth. Depending on your age, your doc may increase the number of embryos but there is significant risk as I said for multiples. I know of a friend who was 42 and her doc transferred 6 but that is very much on the high side. The only other things to do is to avoid caffeine, which has a tiny effect on fertility. Northwestern I believe has the best ivf results in chicago area.

I know this may sound weird but I would try meditation to help you calm down. I've read story after story of women who had trouble conceiving finally get pregnant after relaxing and calming down.

The meditation will help you get into a better mind frame which will be better for you marriage and you child. And it'll help you deal with the stress of what you're going through. And it'll also help you enjoy the process of conceiving with your husband. To me, the act of conception is as special as getting pregnant itself.

I'm sorry I don't have more to tell you. But I wish you luck and I hope you get what you want very soon.
