If you like seafood and you like whole in the wall places...ask for the address for The Wreck. A taxi driver told us about this place and we had to ask around to find it. A couple in a neighborhood that we drove through to get to it...had flyers that they had made up for the place because so many people look for this place. It is in a warehouse right off the water. It didn't have a sign but a lot of cars out front is how we found it. One of the big hurricanes blew the original place away and thats how it got it's name. They have boiled peanuts and fried grits (has cheese and jalapenos in the mix) brought to your table to hold you over until your food arrives. The food is worth the trouble to find this place. Everyone told us it's known by word of mouth is why it doesn't have a sign.
If you don't feel up for the hunt...downtown in the touristy part has more than enough choses to suite your romantic trip. Have fun!!! It's a wonderful place. Charleston is where my husband proposed to me!

We spent a week there for a wedding two summers ago and had a BLAST! Be sure to take
the ferry out to Ft. Sumpter and take their park ranger tour. It is where the Civil War started and it is very interesting. We enjoyed the beaches there. Also, try to take a plantation tour.
They are really interesting. We loved Bubba Gump's Shrimp. The Market is an old slave
market with lots of stuff on sale. It is worth a look. Many, many nice restaurants on
the water. Also, tour the historic part of downtown Charleston's. Have fun!

I went to Charleston about 3 1/2 years ago and it's beautiful and an amazing amount of history in the town itself. Visit the Bettery and take the tour of histoical downtown. Go to visit a plantation, I suggest Middleton Place, it is gorgeous. Just take time and walk arounf downtown, there is the Slave Market under the Daughter's of the Confederacy Building. Don't get scammed by one of the people coming around asking you to take a survey, it's a time share advertisement. One of the restaraunts I suggest is Bubba Gump Shrimp, very good service. The beaches are all great you can't go wrong there. We were there for the summer and it was wonderful. I would move there if I could in a heartbeat. Have a great time on your trip, if you like history, you will love Charleston.

Hey I lived in downtown charleston for a while. I loved IT!!! You will have so much at your fingertips if you stay downtown. THe Market..which is a outdoor place that allows venders to sell their stuff. you have 5 star resturants, the ghost tour is fun(it is very educational as well about the history), you can go on a horse carriage ride(you will share it with several other people and the driver tells you educational things as well), In the Spring, there is a amazing Farmers market that is located accross the ritz hotel. It has painting and arts and crafts. You can also go to either the charleston convention and vistors bureau website (I hope I am spelling all of that correctly) It will tell you other festivals and things going on during the time you go. Isle of Palms is a short drive...BUT GREAT BEACHES. A little more private. Let me know if you need anything else...oh yeaH, EXPECT TO pay a pretty penny for everything.~

If you're a fan of the movie or even liked it at all, Bubba Gump's is a fun place to eat. It's right across from the open air market so it's easy to find. Speaking of the open air market, be choosey about what you get and check multiple booths for prices. It's easy to get taken. I really suggest you get a sea grass basket if you can afford it. I got a small one to use for a bread basket and it was a great momento that was actually useful. Make sure and have the artist sign the bottom, just kinda cool to know who made it. Check the vendors on the street for them because they're sometimes cheaper than the ones at the market. The aquarium there is pretty cool too. Not as awesome as Georgia, but better than most. Last time I was there it was for a mission trip so we didn't get a lot of free time, but I can't wait to take my husband and kids back. That's where my mom is from and there are a lot of cool parks and things to do with kids. Hope you and your husband enjoy the getaway!

Downtown Charleston is an absolute must, and so is Rainbow Row. Do some research before you go and you can reserve a spot on one of the ghost tours. If you are going to Charleston you have to eat "low country" food at least once... Jestine's is good, but the line is always around the building, so go to "Hominy Grill" (this is Rachael Ray's favorite restaurant in Charleston) the Shrimp and Grits are to die for!!!!!

The one thing I regret not doing is having high tea at the Thoroughbred Room, but then again a husband may not be to interested in that!

Have FUN, you will love Charleston!

P.S. I am so jealous!
