C., my husband swears by a product called Triple Antibiotic Ointment made by The Wellness Company. If he uses it when he first feels the beginning of the fissure, it immediately reverses and never forms. So I would say, he uses it a couple of times and it's gone.

It is a wholesale store, but you do NOT have to buy in bulk. The cost is very economical, about $5. I don't sell this, but I can direct you to the store as it is membership only.

I know it is really painful because I know what he went through in the past.

Good luck.

Usually they just heal on their own. Mine did. Make sure you are eating enough fiber and not straining, you should be fine.

My dr's advice: Soaking in very hot water several times a day (yeah, like you can do that with a little one!). That really worked better than anything.

Use lots of fiber and drink lots of water to avoid re-injuring it.

Hi there,

I had one of those after having my first child as well. Very painful and hard to get rid of. If you haven't already, I would go to see a specialist, usually a GI doc. They may give you a prescription. I ended up having surgery, did lots of sitz baths (available at the pharmancy), and a medication mixed with vaseline.

Good luck!

Oh anal fissures are the worst! I had to really make an effort to do short frequent baths. Just fill the tub with a few inches of plain warm water and sit in there for about 10 minutes, and do this as often as possible (several times!) throughout the day. Use baby wipes to wipe after a bm, not regular toilet paper. just dab gently. Also you can ask your DR. for a prescription for something called Nitropaste. Prepared as a LOW CONCENTRATION formula (you might have to go to an old fashioned compounding pharmacy to get it) it can help improve blood flow to the area to speed healing of the fissure. I used it and found that it worked better than the other Rx's they prescribed like anusol, because this only dulls the pain temporarily and does not contribute to healing. Some docs are not even aware that you can get low concentration Nitropaste fyi, but you can if the doctors office is willing to track down a pharmacy that will prepare it. Good luck with this annoying and painful problem.

Hi C.-
I developed an anal fissure shortly after the birth of my child about a year ago. It was painful and rather uncomfortable. It is very important for you to see a doctor and get it checked out. It may seem small, but it can develop into something more serious and even eventually cause some incontinence if it's not handled properly. My father is a doctor and I saw one of his colleagues (in Pennsylvania) who specializes in colon and rectal cancer. Although the fissure is not at all cancerous, this doctor that I saw knows a lot about that particular area of the human body! He prescribed an ointment for me. I used it daily for about 8 months before the fissure went away. I don't recall the name of the ointment, but I suspect that if you see a good doctor they will know.

I hope this isn't too much information for you. Good luck and I hope you feel better.
L.
