My son is 20 months old and he tends to swallow large pieces of food before he chews it well. My husband and I tell him to "chew, chew, chew" and he will chew while we tell him to, but we cannot constantly tell him to chew throughout the meal. He also chews some even when we don't tell him to chew, but a lot of times I notice him swallowing the food too soon. I am afraid one day he will choke or maybe it is h*** o* his stomach to digest big pieces of food.

I understand the anxiety of possibly chocking. I have a 3 year old son who just last year has learned to chew all the way. We just made smaller bites, and only a few bites on the plate. Otherwise he would stuff his mouth. Or maybe you can do one at a time?

watch madagascar! at end penguin says open that hatch, chew it, savor it, etc. works great! and we use it to make them try new foods.
OK...if he isn't chewing the size your giving him, shred the meat...cut the cheese into tiny pieces...put food in a blender.
He may not be ready for bite sized portions, and it's your job to make sure what you give him is the right size and appropriate for his developmental stages.
You may see him smash food into his mouth. In this case, only give him small amounts of shredded food at a time, and add portions as he finishes.
also, put a copy of child instructions on the fridge for choking.
Or is her really just stuffing his mouth? He may have a oralmotor problem (feeding problem). You should ask to see a speech therapist who is trained in oral motor problems.
Does he choke on his food,liquids have a limited diet?

I had/have the same thing with my 3 year old she stuffs her mouth really bad & sometimes doesnt chew well so i try to cut her food into smaller peices & remind her that if she doesnt chew well, it will make his 'boo boo' hurt. She doesn't like the idea of that kind of discomfort.
