Hey mama's! So my son is again on an antibiotic and i've given him pro-biotics for awhile now, but now I hear you should give the pro-biotic a couple hours after the antibiotic. It totally makes sense to now that I think about it. How long do I need to wait to give the pro after the anti??

What can I do next?

This is a question for the pediatrician.
Some antibiotics are to be taken with food. Some are to be taken an hour before. Some are to be taken with no dairy.
It all depends on the antibiotic and the most effective way for it to enter the system so it can do it's work.
I'm not against probiotics, but you need to make sure, any time your child is on an antibiotic, that you aren't countering with something that will render the antibiotic ineffective.
Your pediatrician needs to know everything your son commonly takes so they can advise how long in between or stopping one thing all together until the course of antibiotics is done.

I really would consult the pediatrician about it so that you have the correct and best answer.

Best wishes.

I did the probiotic/antibiotic thing recently, too. I gave my son the probiotic after breakfast and the antibiotic was given to him after dinner. It worked out great and he didn't get diarrhea this time. I didn't know you had to give the probiotic soon after the antibiotic.

two hours after the antibiotic and then continue it after the antibiotic is finished for a month or so.

If you talk to someone who knows anything about this (someone from a whole foods store or your local natural food store) they will tell you to take the probiotic after the antibiotics are completely done. It's pointless to take them with because everytime you take the antibiotic it's killing the normal flora in your gut. So, wait until it's done then do it

I do the probiotic 2-4 hrs after the antibiotic. And then for 2 weeks after the antibiotics are gone.

I agree with those that say, give it to him a couple hours after the antibiotic and two weeks after the antibiotic is done.

That is what I've been told to do by those that work at a health food store...

It is advised to take probiotics after antibiotics to replace the 'good' bacteria and prevent you from getting an infection from any possible antibiotic resistant bacteria particularly. There is no point taking probiotics during because they will get killed.
