I need help! Everytime I put sunscreen on my little guy, it ruins my nail polish (it makes it tacky and dull). I have tried about 4 or 5 kinds of sunscreen and am having no luck. Can anyone recommend a sunscreen that they have not had trouble with?

What can I do next?

You can try disposable vinyl gloves. Buy them at a drug store or a beauty supply company like Sally's. Good luck.

what kind of polish are you using? i have always kept my nails polished and have never had that happen. it just sounds aweful that we are all putting this on our kids. i am a nail tech so just a piece of advise. try using a 'good' top coat. mine are by OPI, a litle expensive but effective, also try ORLY. hopefully this helps.

Hi S.!
I know exactly what you mean!! I once used a lotion that leaked into my bag and ate the plastic off my disposable camera! Can you imagine what its doing to our children's skin??

Anyway, I use a sunscreen by Shaklee. You do have to purchase it from a distributor and I can help you with that, but I have not had any problems with it eating away anything and it doesn't have any of those other bad ingredients that have been profiled in the news.

Please let me know if you'd like more info!

S.... I had this happen last year (when I had acrylic nails) and I thought it was just me!!! At the time, I used Waterbabies SPF50 on my daughter and it ruined them everytime (I resorted to wearing latex gloves when I applied it on her). After some trial, Coppertone Sport & Mary Kay sunscreens have not affected my nails. I can provide you with the MK sunscreen, and Coppertone is obviously available at most retailers! Good luck... I know it's frustrating!!

Have you tried the spray-on sunscreen? Not sure how old your kid is, or if that type of application is appropriate for him, but that might keep the sunscreen chemicals off your child.

I've never had this kind of problem but I have some ideas.
I would look at the nail polish.
Are you using an off brand of nail polish?
Maybe a better quality polish is the answer.
Another idea is to add a extra top coat.
A quality top coat is worth it's weight in gold for the all the touch up it saves you.

Hi Stephanie
Have you ever tried Arbonne's products. Their whole entire line is made with the most gentle ingredients. They are Swiss formulated....pure, safe, and beneficial. My family and I use every single product. I have three children that use the baby line including the sunscreen. I promise it will not do that to your nail polish. I can't believe they make products for our children's skin that has ingredients in them that can melt off nail polish! The U.S. is most unregulated country when it comes to harmful ingredients in our cosmetics and skin care. Let me know if you would like more information.

Wow I never heard of such a thing! I have my nails done every few weeks & the sunscreen doesn't do a thing to my hands & nails. We use Waterbabies 50SPF. Have you tried putting it on using a wach cloth or wear soft gloves so it doesn't ruin your polish??

I like California Baby. I buy it at Whole Foods and it lasts a long time. Plus It's pretty thinvk so I can keep it on my plams and not have it get on my nails.
Also, you can try putting on hand cream on your hands too to act as a barrier before you put the sunscreen on.
