Stretch Marks - Austin, TX

I had my first child 6 months ago, and my stretch marks were terrible. I thought they would be better once I lost weight. I'm only 8 pounds shy of my pre-pregnancy weight, but they are still terrible. I'm young, and really want to be able to wear a swim suit when the season comes around again (even as far as it is) i want to tighten my stomach, and get rid of these awful stretch marks. I'm fresh out of ideas, and never have found a solution.
Any ideas?

Have you tried Vitamin E? Buy some capsules and squeeze the liquid onto the marks and rub in. It just might work.

I got stretch marks on my hips when I went through a major growth spurt as a pre-teen. I am in my 30s now and yes they did fade but not so much that you can't see them in a bathing suit. Some of the people who already responded told you that they would fade but I don't want you to have false hope that they will fade so much that they won't be seen. That probably won't happen. I have olive skin tone and they are lighter than the rest of my body. I have darker friends who have old stretch marks and there's are darker than the rest of their body.

It's just going to take time. Tightening the tummy is difficult, and why many women resort to tummy tucks! Even with exercise it can be very difficult.

Time is your best bet.

Oh, and the advice to use creams during pregnancy to ward off stretch marks is nice, but off the mark. There is absolutely no scientific evidence that cocoa butter cream or any special lotion can keep you from getting stretch marks. It has more to do with the way you grew, how fast you grew, how big you got, and most of all: genetics!!!! I used lots and lots of cocoa butter cream with my first pregnancy, did not get huge just normal, and still had stretch marks! And most of the people I know did the same thing - greased up several times a day and still got them.

Give it time, they will fade and barely be noticeable. They are badges of honor. And by summer, they will be much more faded than they are now.

Stretch marks are different with skin tone. On lighter skin they come out blueish purple and fade to silver. On darker skin they can look a lot worse, reddish brown. But they should fade too over time. I don't think there is any thing you can do to make them go away completely but they do fade.

I know this doesn't help your feelings now but they will eventually fade and go away. Maybe not completely but they will fade away with time. I just have one left that I can see and I lost 60 lbs after my son was born.

Use cream on that tummy while you're pregnant. It sooths the baby anyway. Make daddy rub your tummy with cream every night while he talks to the little one.

I was always Ms.Fit and was devastated when I aquired a tummy full of strechmarks from my first pregnancy. I didn't lose all the wieght from my first pregnancy before I got pregnant with my second, although I didn't get any new strechies with my second. I tired all the creams and everything I could get my hands on because I absoluetly hated my tummy! After two years of no results I just gave up. But about 4 months ago I came across a cream that is really working, but you pay for it! It's called Trilastin(Firmlexin is a generic and half the price when you can find it)and you apply it twice a day. All the testimonials say that these woman went back to bikinis so I guess its my miralce cream. You use it twice a day and one tube at $80 will last you about 6 weeks. I have some before and after pics of some of my progress if you'd like to see them just email me. ____@____.com I also did atleast 100 crunches every night(which I need to start back up again) and that makes a huge difference to.

Since stretch marks are made up of scar tissue, they will never completely disappear, but they can be lightened to the point of being almost unnoticeable.

I'm sure the expensive products mentioned work, as well as scar tissue creams like Mederma, but I found that 100% pure cocoa butter worked wonders for me.

I had bright red angry looking stretch marks across my stomach even though I lotioned through the whole pregnancy. Someone I worked with recommend The Little Yellow Stick. You can find it at any drug store, I get mine at Walgreens in the lotion aisle. You just rub it on the stretch marks. Mine are barely noticeable now, and I dare to bare my middle in my Middle Eastern dance class without worry!

The other good thing is that it's 100% natural and since I have extremely sensitive skin, it worked with no irritation or reactions.

Good luck, I'm sure you will find something that works. The good news is that they will definitely fade so don't stress out about it!

Hi, S.,

Congratulations on your baby! My mom got me to try Bio Oil. We found it at HEB. I've been using it for over a month and it has helped to lighten the dark line over my stomach. The only thing I worry about is that the product contains lavender. If you use it, I'd just be careful about your son coming into contact with wherever you'd applied the Bio Oil. Lavender can cause gynecomastia (breast development) in males. Good luck!

I am using mederma for a surgery scar, on the package it says for use on stretsch marks as well. I have heard wonderful reviews about it with scars...not sure about the research on stretch marks. Worth a shot though. I got mine at the corner drug store. At least you have a bit to do some research. Good Luck

I used 2 lotions and was able to get rid of mine. Both are Mary kay products. I'm still a distributor but would have to check my stock to see if I still have either of them. One I'm pretty sure I have nad I'm selling everything at 60% off. If you have a consultant definitely get with them. Anyways, I used Extra Emollient Night Cream when I would go to bed and then the Timewise Body Lotion during the day. The emollient night cream is a thicker moisturizer and works wonders. The Timewise lotion tightens the skin while moisturizing. The emollient full price is I believe $8 and the Timewise lotion is $22. Both can be used for many things but had really bad stretch marks after my son and tried all the belly creams and couldn't find one to work. If you're interested let me know and I'll see what products I have left.

What really helped mine was Palmer's coacoa butter and Mederma(it's expensive, but it helps) And just so you know, they will never be completely gone..And the sooner you use lotions the better they will look. Mine you can only see from a certain angle..but are MUCH better from when I had my daughter 13 months ago. Time will also help. Good luck to you.
