Stomach Bug?

My 1.5 year old has the stomach bug that is going around. Anyone had this? I think he caught it at the Dr’s office when I took his little sister in for her first well visit. Since I had her that is the only outing I have attempted with now two kids. I just want to know what to expect and how long it lasted for your kids. At first he had no fever but vomited every 1 to 2 hours. Now he just has a fever and no vomiting as there is nothing in his stomach. Any advice is much appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much for your advice. We did take him into urgent care Sat night when it first started and they gave him an anti nausea pill so he could hold down some liquids. That worked for 5 hours and then he started getting sick again and developed a fever. Monday he took a turn for the worse and the Dr gave him a shot so he could hold down liquids and not get sick. That did not work either so the Dr sent us to the ER for an IV drip of liquids and more anti nausea meds. Today he is doing progressively better as he can now hold up his head and drink with out getting sick. As we go on 4 days of this bug I pray that no one will get this. Thanks again for everyone’s advice…never heard of the BRAT diet so I will try that today if he hold down his liquids. Thank you all!

WE have had it in the past and it depends on the bug on how long it will last. Give LOTS of fluids...gatorade is great if he won't drink pedialyte. . Also, keep him on the BRAT diet for a few days...Bananas, Rice, Apples, Toast. That is it and it should ease his tummy. Hang in there....

I feel for you. My son has caught every virus and bacterial infection there is out this cold and flu season. He had a stomach bug for a short while, after the vomiting stopped the fever continued and really bad diarhea (spelling??) started. I was told by his doc that if there is a fever than it might be bacterial and he needed to be seen and turns out he had double ear infections. He said nothing about his ears hurting and never pulled on them so I never suspected. Once he was on the antibiotics he perked right back up. My suggestion would be to call his doctor and see if a bacterial infection is possible and see if he should be seen. Keep up lots and lots of fluid. I hope he feels better and you get some rest throughout this with him sick and a new baby!

The stomach bug hit our family, most of the families at school and almost all of my co-workers! Good thing is, its short, 24 hours or even shorter (I think I was much better in 12) I drank g2 the new one from gatorade, I think it has extra electrolyets, to get you back in shape faster from the vomiting. You can also try cola syrup for the nausea.

My son had something similar last month. He was vomiting every 10-15 minutes from midnight until 4 am. The next day, he was tired and empty. I let him snack on a little dry cereal and that was all he could stomach. By the next day, he was back to normal. Probably just a 24 hour thing.

Hope your kiddo feels better!

We caught the stomach bug last Monday, & we are just now getting over it! I finally went to the doc last Friday, & she said it's been going around full-force. I had to get some anti-nausea meds...which have worked BTW. My DH still has it a bit. Oh, and we didn't have fever either.

Just follow the BRAT diet...broth, rice, applesauce, toast (or something like that)...very bland foods, & keep the liquids downs...nothing with sugar in it. Take him to the doc if he continues to vomit or can't keep any liquids down. Good luck!!
