Spontanious Lactation

My godson's mother experienced spontaneous lactation even before she became pregnant. When she went to the doctor she found out she has a small benign tumor at the base of her skull which affects the pituitary gland (?) which in turn creates hormonal imbalances. She now takes medication and they watch it closely. Since you've recently had a child, maybe it's an hormonal imbalance due to the pregnancy. Sounds like something I'd be sure to talk to my doctor about. Good luck.

Aside from that, I also was only able to breastfed for 2 weeks, then about a year later began lactating again. It's been five and half years and I continued to lactate - until I got pregnant again. My OB checked me out (breast exam, thyroid labs) and then said I was fine - there are just some women who continue to lactate, and that three hundred years ago would have been employed as a wet nurse.... other than that, just to learn to live with it.

The issue does get worse with consistent sexual activity, especially that involving breast play of any kind. Check with your doctor first, but more than likely it's nothing....you just got "lucky".

I also have the same thing. When i was pregnant with my son i had colustrum for months before i even had him i also had small amounts before i ever became pregnant for the first time. I have hypothyroidism and my hormones are out of wack. After i was through nursing my son at 8 months along with supplimenting i still had breast milk up until recently (hes 3) when i became pregnant with my daughter and now my milk is back to clolustrum again since about 2 months ago. I was told hormones are the cause and that in my case it would probobly help me to breastfeed longer this time since i am still lactating and i can express alot if i need to even now. So im planning on a happy healthy baby girl in just a few short weeks. I would definatly talk to your dr but also if you are lactating and not breastfeeding and you baby is still young enough to benifit from the milk i would express it and use it along with whatever formula you are using. Any breastmilk is better then none and its FREE :)

Are you sure you couldn't be pregnant?? That's how I discovered I was pregnant between my daughter born jan03 and son june 04. I miscarried in between them but I took a test because I had quit breast feeding my daughter fairly early but was pumping every now and then. I had quit altogether and was trying to get my milk to dry up when I found that it just wouldn't so test time and oh, my god I sure was!!!! I say take a test just to be sure. Then talk to your doctor and see what they say.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I breast feed my son for 2 months and about a year later, I start lactating again. I went to the doctor to have everything checked out. I guess there is some hormone that can be out of wack that can cause this to happen. Everything came back fine with me and my doctor said that this just happens to some women. (My son is 3 1/2 and it still happens!)

I would suggest that you go to your doctor to make sure you don't have any hormones going wacky.
