Smelly Dog - Roseville,CA

We live out in the country. I participate in what I like to call the "Dog Sharing Program" with my neighbor. It's her sons dog but the dog comes and visits us everyday and we get to play with her too. My 4 year old especially loves this since we aren't able to have dogs here. Anyway, this dog has a bad smell problem. Even right after a nice bath she smells. She tends to roll in dead things and likes to play with, what my neighbor calls, the "black and white cats that only come out at night" (AKA skunks). So what can be done to help this odor problem?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

It could be it's ears need to be cleaned, too.

Man, I thought my dog was bad! Atleast we don't have the skunk problem! She's a Beagle...they are notorious for hunting and rolling in things that stink...I catch her doing it everyday! I finally got sick of it and went to Petsmart to purchase puppy perfume! It's very cheap, not harmful and smells great! Totally works!

tomato juice is what I've heard for your nocturnal black and white cats. I don't know if it will address the rest of the stink.

not sure what to tell ya if it is just from rolling in stuff and the skunks, but if the dog stinks even right after a bath it could be a skin infection. our dog is being treated for one right now. we had to shave him and he is not a dog that would normally get shaved. he has very think fur and his skin was not getting enough air and he got soars on his back that was making him smell really bad. now he is doing much better after and antibiotic and a shave and a medicated shampoo. that may not be the case at all but it was just a thought.

My friend worked at a groomers and she said tomato juice works. The problem is that is only works if you soak them in it and let it dry, then rinse it off. That's why so many people think it actually doesn't work, because they rinse it off right away.

If it is not real skunk stink, a simple fix is a wipe-down with a damp rag with fabric softner. I also sprinkle corn starch baby powder on white dogs to keep the pet ( and the house) smelling better between baths...
