My dishwasher smells like mold after every load. Do anyone know why this is, and how to clean it out?

What can I do next?

It's just a build up of calcium and other deposits most likely, if you have hard water it can be adding to it. I use a monthly cleansing product, you just put it in the dishwasher, run the dishwasher empty and it removes all the build up of ickiness. I can't think of the brand name I use, but it's fairly inexpensive.

Jet Dry has a great dishwasher cleaner that works great for me everytime. I use it once a month to clean out all the old gunk and it makes my dishes cleaner and it smells better.

If that doesnt work put some white vinegar in there and it should work just fine.

Take out the lower basket.

At the bottom unscrew with washer blade and take it out.. Then remove the strainer that is under there.. You may notice it is coated in gunk.. Wash all of that (Blade, strainer and the unscrewed portion, with soapy bleachy water. The clean that area of the dishwasher out..

Make sure any food particles are removed.

Then put it all back together and run a wash..

Jet Dry clearer works awesome! It has always taken away any type of funny smell from the dishwasher. I have heard of some people also using vinegar.

My friend just had this problem and was told by a repairman to use tang. She ran a load with just tang and it worked on the smell.

Hi Jenn, I pour some CLR in the bottom on the dishwasher from time to time before a wash. It also clears out all the deposits in the lines and holes the water sprays from. Not very green however.

White vinegar in a wash in addition to your detergent might do it too. Might take a few tries though.

I second the Jet Dry dishwasher cleaner. I use that from time to time, and it takes away any smell in the dishwasher.

Try some white vinegar and that should do the trick. Just put it in where you would normally put the soap. You can use vinegar for cleaning just about anything.

The do also sell dishwasher cleaning liquid too...just not sure where to get it.
