If you are cooking on a cookware that you shouldn't use a metal utensil, do you rather use wooden or silicon?
Yes, that I was thinking, I like the ecofriendly, price and looks of the wooden sets, but wonder how to clean them, because the ones I have they do get small cracks that I wonder if I am really cleaning them enough, and then if I let them on water they change color and start looking old faster then the silicone.
It actually depends on what I am cooking. Just now I made pasta with a silicon spatula, sometimes the garlic gets into the wood and makes it funky.
I use both depending at what effect I'm wanting. Flexible silicone for clearing the food from the surface such as when making scrambled eggs. Hard plastic or wood when turning foods that I want to keep their shape, such as fried eggs. I use a wooden spoon for everything that needs to be stirred. I wash the wooden spoon in the dishwasher which does get rid on garlic and onion smell and flavor. They do not crack, tho they do look used.
Never let wooden utensils sit in water. Wash off the food before it gets dried on. You can try rubbing them with vegetable oil. Mine may hold up better because I do use them in foods that have oil in them or in the pan.
Have you tried bamboo utensils? They cost more but may stay nice looking longer.
Both! I love the food network silicon ones (I get them at kohls when I have a 30% off coupon.) otherwise I LOVE the pampred chef wood ones. (about $10 for 2 or 3 )
