Side Effect with Mirena IUD?

My husband and I have been together for 11yrs/married for 9yrs and always used a calandar-based method for birth control. We planned both my pregnancies to the month. However, we came to the decision that a third child wouldn't be in the near future. To prevent any unplanned pregnancies we decided it was best for me to get the Mirena IUD. I'm going on my third month with it and have not experienced any intolerable side effects, other then what the doctor said I would, up until now. In the past few weeks I've had dizzy spells, feeling of weakness in my arms & legs and a feeling as if I was going to faint. The feelings come and go and not necessarily together. Just the other day I had to pull over on the express way because I felt as if I was going to faint. Needless to say I am extremely thankful that my little ones weren't with me at the time. I can't say that the Mirena IUD has been the cause for any of these symptoms but I can't think of anything else that could be causing this. As always my first step was to schedule an appointment with my primary doctor. But I'm curious, has anyone experienced these symptoms with IUD or birth control? I'm hoping our decision wasn't a mistake.

What can I do next?

I had my IUD for three years and had no side effect other then one that my doctor warned me about. I think that you may need to see your doc to do a blood test and make sure all your levels are okay.

I have the same IUD and I haven't had any side effects personally but a friend of mine has had a few that you mentioned and had to have it removed? The best advise I could give is to get to your doctor with a quickness!!!

Good Luck

A friend of mine is having hers removed tomorrow because it implanted into her uterus, and she was also having horrible side effects. I'd get it checked out immediately by a doctor just to make sure. But I've had mine for 3+ years with no problems. Hope that helps!

Hi N.!
I've had my Mirena for a year now and have not experienced anything like that. I would definitely go to your primary doctor and have him run some tests on you. Sounds like somehting might be out of balance.

I hope everything works out okay and you get a resolution to the problem. :)

I had the Mirena IUD for 2 years. I never got dizzy while I had it. I actually really enjoyed it and would do it again. I just had it removed in October and got pregnant in December. If I were you I would call the doctor and even check online and read more about it. Good Luck.
