i'm shopping for a new camera. I'd like one that takes instant pictures not with a delay. a 5 second delay can make a huge difference between a great picture and a blur! anyone love their camera?

What can I do next?

i have a canon rebel as well, it's awesome, but if you don't want the lenses to buy seperately, the canon G series are pretty great too!

I LOVE my camera. We have a Cannon Rebel (not sure which one- xl, xlt who knows!) It was expensive but I never miss a shot. It takes excellent pictures at sports and around the house. The comparable nikkon is just as good- depends on what brand you like. I was so tired of missing my daughter's firsts with our old slow camera!
I can't say enough about it! It was an excellent investment.

I don't know what your price range is, but the Nikon D90 is AMAZING. It's very expensive, but well worth it. We bought this camera shortly after having our daughter and we know it is going to last us a long long time because of the quality. The picture quality is amazing and it even does HD video with sound. I love the HD video for those short video clips of cute things the kids do. It is an SLR camera, but it has an auto setting (which is the only one I use). It's got tons of features I never use- maybe someday I'll have more time for that ;-) The shutter speed is instantaneous (that was a must for us as well). There is a viewfinder as well as an LCD screen. Nikon has come out with a couple new models since the D90 (which we got right when it came out at Christmastime last year)- I don't know as much about them, but Nikon is definitely a quality product.

Canon Rebel Xti--it's superfast. Almost too fast--you can take even 20+ pics in a row with flash, virtually no delay. I don't recall exactly how much it cost, but I believe it was more than $500.

Just had the same problem... my camera called it quits after three years. I had a Kodak Easyshare... so I got another... the Z915. Immediately upon opening it, the new camera had the same problem my old one did - the lens cover wouldn't open. So, trusting in my old camera, I returned the Z915 for the same... this time, it lasted two uses over the Halloween holiday and by the third use the lens wouldn't even extend. I have given up on the Kodak Easyshare, especially the Z915, and have gone with the Sony Cybershot W230 - so far so good! About $160.

Good luck to you!

We also love our Canon, but we just have the point and shoot SD750 Digital ELPH. I believe we paid around $160 at Best Buy last year, so it's affordable and it takes GREAT pictures. My friend, a photog, just bought the Olympus (don't know exactly which model) point and shoot. It's the one that can take underwater pics. It seems pretty cool and took no-wait pictures! I'd compare the two and go from there! Good luck.
