Seeking Digital Camera Recommendations to Take Photos of an Active Toddler

I just go the Nikon D60, but it wasn't under $300.
I LOVE IT!!! My twins are 14 and I wish I had it when they were small. the delay in a regular digital camera is so annoying and the new Single Lens Reflect cameras like my Nikon are so user friendly - definitely an investment I would recommend!

I like my kodack easy share. It has the ability to take short video clips and it is easy to use, and download photos to the computer.

Canon SD95_IS. One of its special shoot modes is "kids and pets". The camera is automatically choose the right "decision" for catching "objects" that move fast (like pets and kids). Though the most stores sell it for over $300, you can still find it on the internet for under $300.

I have been happy with Kodak Easy Share.I had the simple one for 3 years and now bought a zoom lens model, refurbished, at a great price. There is a setting for motion. I use it to capture my many grandchildren and to take pictures of birds in the yard. Good prices too. Look at the Kodak web site. I am a Real Estate agent in Madison and also use the camera to take many great house pictures.

Just taking a picture of an active toddler is a task in itself! I have the Canon Powershot SD800IS and I LOVE it. It has lots of different setting and once the camera auto focus' it gets great pictures.

I agree with the Canon fans. I have a Canon Powershot A560 as well and a very active 3 year old. My Aunt has a Kodak and she likes my Canon better because you can change to the rapid fire setting and take as many shots in a row as you want. Her Kodak will only take 5 shots in a row. My testimony that it is easy to use is that my Mom (completely electonically inept) and was amazed that even she could work it without my help. You can get a 7 or 8 megapixel for around $170. It is easy to upload photos and if you use the highest pixel setting you can blow up the picture poster size. I will send you one of my own pics or you can check Walmart's website they usually have customer reviews and sample pictures.

i just got the canon powershot and i love it. it has a great kid setting so i rarely get a blurry picture these days. super easy to use.

I just got a Canon Powershot - great for snapshots and has different settings, such as portrait which takes out the red-eye, etc and another setting for children and pets - great for little wiggleworms!

I had the same problem. I now have a Cannon SD630. It was the fastest camera at the time we bought it, but that was almost two years ago. I still really like it, and it still works great. It was around three hundred when we got it, so I'm sure it has come down in price. It also has a huge screen so it is so easy to see what you are trying to capture!Hope that helps!

I have the Canon Powershot A560 and it's awesome. It has a setting specifically for kids & pets, and it takes movies. I had a Kodak Easy Share and a Nikon before this camera, and by far, the Canon is the best. It retails for less than $150 right now. I even saw it posted on www.dealoco.com for just over $100.

I second the Kodak Easy Share...I have had 2 and love them both..I also have the printer doc but have never used it...it comes with the software and it is very easy to upload to your computer...Im sure each one was not more than $150!!

I've been using a KODAK EasyShare CX7530 5.0 Mega pixels which is not only very simple to use, it takes wonderful pictures. And it does have an ACTION setting amoung the 6 different settings....plus the Video setting.
I had gotten it as a gift from a friend along with the port it sits on that connects it to my computer...so I don't know how much it had cost but she knew I needed something that would be very, very easy to learn. I had owned others which I bought, returned or gave away as they were way to frustrating and confusing for me to learn.

Go to a camera store, look at them all, ask the sales person questions about them....mark down the name and model numbers of the cameras you like.. When you figure out which camera you want, and are ready to buy, check out the prices on line first. Each camera company has their own site....and then check them out on e-Bay.com.

Hi there. We also have a kodak easy share and we bought it for that exact reason. There is NO delay. You can even take lots of pictures one after another and it will get them all and then later you can choose on the computer which one came out the best. I am not good and setting all the different settings and things and this one I just turn on and shoot. we LOVE it. :)

Hi - I was having the same issue. Any point and shoot digital camera is going to have the same delay issues. The best bet is to invest in a good camera and get an SLR. It is the big kind with interchangable lenses. The pictures come out amazing!! I have even taken pictures of butterflies moving their wings and get a perfect open shot. Unfortunately, they are more than $300. I purchased the Nikon D40. Got so addicted, I bought an additional lens - the 55-200mm. If you have the $$, I would recommend getting the package with 2 lenses up front. It was a mistake I made. There is a good site for advice, www.dpreview.com. Hi. We have always used Kodak Easy Share Cameras. We currently have the C663. We've had it for at least a year or 2 and never had a problem with it. We also have the printer dock as well. Prints great pics! You could probably get both the camera and the printer for under $300!

i take tonnnnnns of pics. i have a canon 8 or 10 megapixel, and it is great, its my 2nd or 3rd, i like to upgrade :) very easy to use, to download, takes beautiful pictures. and all you do is hold down the button halfway in focus position, and when you get that millisecond of a window when they are actually smiling and looking, click! good for shooting a bunch in a row too, not machine gun fast, but really pretty fast. the pics come out really nice. probably under 300 now.

Why not change the shuuter speed, or change the setting to sports when taking the picture.

Cannon's the way to go, and the price is right. You won't be disappointed.

You may not like my response because my husband is a camera snob. His only birthday/Christmas/any holiday gift last year was a $1000 camera. But I have to tell you that it takes the most amazing pictures. Even a novice like me can get GREAT shots. I have twins, so though they're older, it's hard to get them to look good in the same shot and this camera has me ready to submit many of them to Ford they're so good. You will never be able to recapture these moments so I strongly suggest that you re-evaulate your budget. You certainly don't need a $1000 camera, but a Canon Rebel is a VERY good camera and allows you to take high quality photos with no lapse time in between shots. I was very hesitant to get this camera for him and it is the best money I've spent since they were born. Just my two cents.

The best way to keep the pictures from being blurry is to let the child move, but not you. Then you will be able to see that she is moving, but it won't blure. Of course if you are too close you will have to move in order to keep your child in the shot.

My camera is a digital still and video camera in one. It's a Canon Optura S1, and hold both a mini DV tape and a mini SD card. I love it, and I bought it refurbished for under $300. I got it from Tigerdirect.com. Buying refurbished is awesome because someone else already discovered what was wrong it and sent it back to be repaired. You are less likely to have a problem with it, and usually the item still comes with a short term warranty. I have bought many, many refurbished items from an MP3 player for my irresponsible 7 yr old son to a $500 Kitchen Aid mixer that I got for half that price!

I have a kodak Easy Share as well and love it. I recomend buying on Ebay but beware. My camera came with all the accessories for $179. and the camera alone was 199 in the store 50 for the bag and 70 for the tripod. so I made out like a bandidt and it was still in the original box.

Find 1 you like then look online at electronic stores near you and see what they run. Compare the price and now you can figure out what will be your max. bid, and it will be delivered to your house to save you gas$$. Figure this all in I always make sure I save at least $10 from how much it would cost me to go to the store.

Just bought 4 Mino's (Flip Video) for myself and family members. It can be purchased on Amazon for $145. or less. It is the size of a very thin cell phone, extremely easy to use, plugs into your USB port to down load and sizes down video for e-mailing. It is a basically a camcor but you can clip any shot from the video and save as a still. It is the best of both worlds.
