Seeking Nice Town OUTSIDE of the City

I am very happy in Bensalem, although we ARE the town that connects to Phila. It is quite nice here. Some of the houses are a little pricy. Croydon is also nice (the other end of State Rd) Croydon also leads into Philly. My best friend lives off of harbison Ave... she is only 20 mins from me and I am on the other side of Bensalem... closest to Levittown Newportville and Croydon. Hatboro/ Horsham, Warminister in @30-40 mins from the northeast depending on whitch way you go and thier homes are slightly more affordablethan Bensalem(most of them anyway, they also have some VERY expensive areas there.)Good Luck

I actually live in Bucks County(bristol) but I was just reading in the paper that Horsham(i think) it rated one of the best town in the US because of schools, communities, stores, prices, etc. if it wasnt horsham then it is in that vicinity(abington, willow grove, jenkintown) I also think that langhorne is extremely nice. A little pricier, but probally well worth it. Good luck!!

I have lived in Northeast Philly my entire life. I grew up around Castor Gardens, and then I moved to Mayfair and that is where my fiance, now husband, and I lived until my daughter was almost 2. Now we live in a very big apartment in Huntingdon Valley actually called Huntingdon Manor Apartments, which is right outside of Fox Chase and Rockledge and considered to be in Abington Township and it is still very close to the Northeast. I went to St. Basil Academy, which is literally right around the corner from my house and it is a wonderful area. Its very quiet, yet like I said still extremely close to the Northeast. You are also near Burholme Park, Five Points, Krewstown Road, and also right up the road from Willow Grove, Jenkintown, Upper Moreland, Southampton, Roslyn, and the Greater Northeast.

Have you thought of Abington Township? I currently live in Willow Grove and absolutely love it! Roslyn, Glenside are all real nice places too that are just a few minutes away from here also.

I have lived in Abington for more than 22 years. I like it very much. It's a walkable community, and I can leave my car at home and reach a grocery store, drug store, post office, hospital/doctors, Target, church and parks. That being said, my kids are headed off to college, and so I'm not concerned with the school district anymore. Abington's schools have a good reputation, but I did not find it to be so wonderful for us. My foster son is in the senior high now, and although he's an excellent student near the top of his class, I've been very disappointed by the school in general. We took our two biological sons out of the Abington school district many years ago and paid Catholic school tuition instead. My other favorite areas here are Hatboro-Horsham (also very good reputation for schools), and Jenkintown. I especially like Jenkintown because it's so small, which I think has a lot to do with how well the schools are run. But, property is quite expensive in Jenkintown because of the demand.

Have you looked anywhere in Bucks County? You'd still be very close to NE Philly, but in, say Oxford Valley or Levittown (Pennsbury schools) the houses are quite affordable (for the region), there are lots of parks, and the schools are good.
