Pediatrician in Glenside Area

After one unpleasant experience after another at Abington Pediatric Associates (culminating with them turning me away from an appointment this morning - with my 20 month old twins and 4 year old son in tow), I've decided I'll be finding another practice for my children. I tried looking up former posts, but many of them seem very old, so I'm curious about current experiences from Moms in the area. We live in Glenside, but I'd be willing to travel a bit for a clean, kid-friendly and kind practice in the area. I know it might sound silly, but the waiting room is key indicator for me! I've always had good experiences with pediatricians offices who recognize that the place doesn't have to look like a hospital room!

What can I do next?

We also go to abington office in rydal. the only prob is they sometimes do not have all the vaccinces in stock when you need them. Otherwise we like the drs esp. dr steve shapiro - he's the head of peds at abington hospital too. Professionally, there are lots of good things about dr. elgie mclaughlin in huntingdon valley too. If we lived closer to her we would probably go there. She is wonderful on the phone!

I can't say enough great things about Kids First in Flourtown!!! (Especially Dr. Sharon Corcoran!). Everytime I leave that place, I feel like I've had my own personal cheerleading session. The best part is that my son looks forward to going to see 'Dr. Sharon'; she loves him, and treats him like she is a doting aunt!

S., We take my son to Meadowbrook Peds. They are associated with Holy Redeemer Hospital and are great. There are 3 doctors and 1 nurse practioner (sp?). this is my first experience with a ped and I like them alot. they take the time to answer any questions I have and any time I call the nurse who answers the phone helps in any way she can. Their number is ###-###-####. Good luck. P.S.- They must be good too, my ob.gyn takes his kids there!

We go to Fort Washington Pediatrics on New York Drive off of Commerce in Fort Washington and are very happy there. Their number is ###-###-####. I also had to go through 3 other offices a number of years ago, where I was not happy; and I have been with this practice for about 5 plus years and it's great.

Hi S., we live in Oreland..5 yr old son & 9 month old twins!!!WE left abington peds in January...wanted to leave quite a while ago but only having the one child we trucked thru their unpleasantness...then the twins came and we couldn't deal anymore...We switchted to P G C- Pedatric Care Group after much investigating..They don't have any Nurse Practioners or Physician Asst...so you see a Dr. every time you go in...The girls at the desk are friendly & most of all They answer the phone!!! No automated system....We are very pleased so far...They are located in the Benjamin Fox Pavilion..One draw back is they are on the 6 th floor so you do have to get there a little early to ensure you get the elevator & get in there on time(parking can sometimes be a dousy) but otherwise we love them...My only concern is that it is 3 women, so far not a problem but as the boys get older I don't know if they will want a male dr...Anyway I hoped I helped, if you have any ____@____.com

We love Dr. Leigh Roberts- 9622 BUSTLETON AVENUE SUITE 1

She's right off Grant & Bustleton in the northeast. It is a small practice, but I have been VERY happy there for the past 2 years. I know she sets aside Thursday afternoons for interviews if you're interested in meeting with her. I find she's very down-to-earth, believes that mommy's instinct is an important tool, and the few times I've had to call for a sick visit- they are able to squeeze me in that day. (Heck, once they were even able to get me in within 30 minutes of me calling!) I highly recommend her!

Another vote for Pediatric Care Group in Jenkintown, we really like all three doctors. When you call with a question, an actual doctor will call you back (promptly), not a nurse! And they are very thorough, reassuring, and caring. The office staff is very friendly and pleasant also. Oh also, I have several times decided at 4-5PM that yeah, we really do need to go get that looked at, and still been able to get in for a sick appointment that evening. None of this "call at 8:30AM or you're outta luck."

Their website is pcgkids.com if you'd like to check it out.

I recommend North Willow Grove Pediatrics on Blair Mill Road. You are not going to like EVERY doctor there; however, it is clean and friendly. I really recomment Dr. Colleen Gulczynski.

Wow! I had some unpleasant experiences at Abington Pediatric Associates, as well. It was years ago. What a shame. Things have not changed, apparently. It was the front office staff that irritated me there, almost nonstop. My kids are now all 18 and over and they see our internists. But for a few years before they were old enough to transfer to our primary care provider, we took them to Horsham Pediatrics. It's a bit of a drive, up near the air base off of Horsham Road, but they were very nice. I had been to several pediatricians in the Abington area, and was never really thrilled with any of the big practices here.

I use Pediatric Medical Associates who have offices in Norristown at Mercy Suburban and in Rydal (south on 611 from Abington hospital) I use the NOrristown office , so I don't konw about the waiting room at Rydal, but the staff is amazing. I have never had them turn me away or fail to squeeze me in when I call. the docs are amazing, so are the nurses and front desk staff. Dr. Shapiro (head of practice) is the chairman of peds at Abington. www.pmadocs.com

Kids First Flourtown is amazing - all the docs are great - the office staff are pleasant, and we've always been able to get an appointment when needed. They are affiliated with CHOP and Abington hospitals - and all the docs are CHOP faculty.

Mt. Airy Pediatrics, Mt. Airy PA. I can't sing their praises enough!! Dr. Marcy Macalino and Susan Nordlof the CNP there are wonderful. Dr. Cady is only taking newborns right now; and I haven't had much interaction with their newest Dr., Dr. Turturo (the one experience with him personally I didn't care for him) The nurses/receptionists are wonderful, pleasant people and I've never been disappointed. They have all been very open and accepting of our desire to delay vaccinations and work on a slower schedule as well as our desire to use holistic avenues before western (this is excluding Dr. Turturo who is new and fresh off the med school train and inundated with drug company text book propaganda). It's well worth the travel. (we go from Warminster).
Peace

We have used Abington Family Practice, for 6 years. No problems to report. They are located in the old Zanny Brainy right in Jenkintown.
