Hello everyone,
Due to an insurance change, I have to change pediatricians. I am thinking about switching to Old Tappan Pediatrics - does anyone use them? I am looking for candid, honest advice. I am heartbroken over having to leave our current pediatricians as they have been with my 2 girls from day one! I appreciate your help!

I do not go to Old Tappan Pediatrics but looked into the possibility when my son was born. I spoke to a couple of mother's who went there and was told that they never get to see the doctor they want when they have a problem and the wait is awful. I ended up deciding on Broadway Pediatrics in Westwood, NJ and have nothing but great things to say about them. I love all the doctor's in the practice, the nurses are amazing and I would highly recommend the practice to anyone.

Hi J.,
As a matter of fact, my husband is a holistic pediatrician at Old Tappan Pediatrics. His name is Dr. Larry Rosen and I would definitely recommend him! All bias aside, I think he is a superb pediatrician and I take my kids to his partner, Dr. Nancy Rothenberg whom I also like very much. His webiste is www.thewholechild.us. Hope that helps!

Sorry, don't know about Old Tappan Peds, but if your insurance would be accepted by Garden State Peds in Westwood, I'd highly recommend them. Small practice (2 female docs) who were in a very big group then went into practice on their own. Whenever my 11 month old has been sick, I've called in the morning and gotten an appt that day! Worth looking into. Good luck!!

Yes. Love Love Love, Dr. Rosen. He is so great, and I've seen other Dr.s there as well, and they all have been wonderful. What I particularly love about dr. Rosen is his holistic approach. As a first time mom, I was very concerned about everything specifically immunization. We talked through it, and he was very open as to how he would do it if it were his children. We worked up a plan to do the shots in a different schedule and time line. He also has great remedies for everything else. He always tries to go with the natural route rather than to medicate. When my son was little and he had tummy issues, Dr. Rosen suggested camomile tea, and when my son was constipated, he suggested flax seed powder.... You get the idea. The place is a bit on the shabby side, but the dr.s are wonderful. The one thing I was not crazy about, was the response time (call back time) from the nurses. When my son was very small and I would call to talk to the nurse about what was an emergency to me, they would take a couple of hours to call me back. I understand that my calls were not a medical emergency, but to a first time mom, your child crying because he is very gassy is an emergency. Also Dr. Rosen is always available via email, and I love that I can post medical questions to him and he is very good with responding. I think you'll be happy with the dr.s. Good luck.

Hi J.,

We had to switch doctors as well so I know how you feel. We now use Dr. Nancy Rothenberg and are very happy. She is knowledgeable and very easy to talk to. I think you will be happy with her.

Hope this helps!

I had used Metropolitan Pediatrics from before I had my first child as we had a foster child for nearly a year. I too was heartbroken by having to take an HMO that they did not accept. I eventually found another group that we (the children and I) like. It is not Old Tappan but since I assume you live in my area I thought I would recommend the ones I use now. They are part of Closter Medical Group. I started using the group through Closter Pediatrics for my children and then had a change in my personal insurance as well so I chose a PCP for myself from their 'adult' staff downstairs and have just made a change in my OB/GYN to one in their group also to have the whole family all under one roof. The pediatrician I like the best/have seen the most often is Nina Cavalli. I have 2 sons...one is now a teen. She is direct and honest which I have found particularly refreshing in terms of issues with my teen. I would highly recommend the whole practice - pedicatricians, internists, OB/GYNs...how nice to have the whole family in one place. Their location is convenient, always parking and the office has some evening and Saturday hours as well.

J.,

I can not tell you myself about Old Tappan pediatrics as I do not use them but, I do have 2 friends that do use them and they love them and have no complaints. We almost had to change our peditrican as well due to a insurance change but, thank goodness the plan we chose the peditrican we use was still in the plan otherwise I would have chose Old Tappan.

GOOD LUCK!
