Seeking Great GYN in Portland, Oregon

Hey mamas,

I sure hope someone on this list can help me out. We've recently switched to Providence for our health insurance. I am looking for a great GYN in this system. Top priorities are dealing with possible endometriosis and pain relief/management due to severe cramping (or therapies that can lessen the incidences of cramping and their intensity.) I'm also interested in GYNs that are open to their patient seeking options from all avenues, including alternative therapies. Obstetrics/birthing are not issues--I'm all done with that! Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Women's Healthcare Associates by Providence St. Vincent (they also have other locations, but that's the one I go to).

I ususally get all my gyn. stuff done by one of the midwives (Helen Welch), but I recently had some major complications with a fibroid and had to have surgery. They referred me to Dr. Garvie-Loveland, who was wonderful! She's got amazing credentials (you can read about her on their website), and is a lovely person.

I used to see Dr Richard Hamilton at the Women's Clinic. I transferred only because I live in Vancouver and needed a doctor that could go to the hospitals on this side of the river. Dr Hamilton is awesome, he will sit and talk with you without seeming rushed. Whenever I had a problem I could get in pretty quickly and he was good at checking into things to get to the root of the problem rather than just giving me meds to cover up a problem. Love him!

I highly recommend Dr. Asma Ahmad at Gateway Women's Clinic. She is very caring, responsive, friendly, smart, and professional. I believe she still accepts Providence insurance. (She was my doc a few years ago when we had Providence insurance. We've since changed and I don't see her anymore). Good luck!
