I am looking for a consignment shop that offers good prices for very gently used clothes and toys. Anyone know of any....I am willing to drive. I have 3 years of toys and stuff still in great condition. Tried Craigslist and Ebay to no avail.

Thanks!

I second the recommendation about Hand Me Downs in Evanston

There is also Bearly Used in Wilmette. It is at the end of the el line at Linden and 4th ( or 5th?) street in Wilmette. Selective- good quality stuff.

A little, but very clean and respectable consignment shop in Oak Park just opened two weeks ago - it's called "Oh Joy!" It's so new it may not even be in the phone book yet. It's on the 800 south block of Oak Park Avenue. I'm at work right now, but I'll see if I have their business card when I get home.

I don't know of any consignment shops, but another option is a seaonal children's consignment sale. Many organizations and churchs offer them, and they routinely take place in the spring and fall. You donate a percent of your sales to the nonprofit and keep the rest. Everyone's rules are different. Here's a list of some options, as I don't know where you are located http://www.kidsconsignmentsales.com/il.htm#Chicago. One that I have had good personal success with is this one. http://www.parentswhocare.org/index.php?title=Resale Their fall sale is August 16th.

Once Upon a Child in North Chicago on Foster in a shopping center. I hear they pay 25% of the item's current retail value. They will only buy it from you if it is in good condition and don't have too may already in stock. Good Luck!

Hi C.,

I'll second Jasmin's nomination for Once Upon A Child. They have locations all over the Chicagoland area, and are all independently owned. There's one in Villa Park, Streamwood, and some other locations that I can't think of offhand. Try their website. . .www.ouac.com. You can look at their different locations and info about buying and selling children's items. They also have decent sales (I just stocked up on fall and winter clothes for my 10-month old), so it's a good place to look at for stocking up too. Happy Hunting!
