Looking for Second Hand Store

Try Second Chance on Armitage Avenue (at Sheffield), if you are in the city. The area is conjested and difficult to tolerate (full of trendy boutiques and sparse parking) but the quality of clothes and the selection is amazing. You might make an excursion to the Lincoln Park Zoo and then stop by afterwards. Also, there is a great family-owned ice cream shop one block away. There was a store called KidBiz in the South Loop, on Dearborn. I think she had to close for low volume of sales. She says she'll reopen in another South Loop locale sometime soon.

I often check out consignment shops in trendy, upscale neighborhoods. You can get some fantastic deals on some very nice barely used merchandise. I've found a Coach bag for $30 and Prada shoes for under $50 at a store called Selections on Clybourne, near Webster.

Childrens clothes hold up especially well.

I don't know where you live, but there is a Once Upon a Child in Round Lake that has pretty good prices, also Repeat Street in Gurnee. I shop there a lot for my girls clothes.

Village Discount Outlet on Roscoe, west of Damen. It's a bit disorganized but the basement is full of kids ' clothes at cheap prices.

I've bought clothes and a nearly new Pack N' Play for cheap at Once Upon a Child, at Harlem and Foster. They may have another location in the Chicago area--check out their website. The clothes are in great shape and much cheaper than new, but a little more pricey than thrift shops. My husband has found nice, cheap clothes at Village and Unique Thrift shops, which are all over the place. I'd also look at secondhand stores in nice suburbs like Wilmette, Winnetka, etc. It won't be super cheap, but the quality will be good.

I love finding great clothes at resale shops for my son. It's a great form of recycling and that way my son isn't dressed in the same Gap sweater as every other kid.
