Seeking Basement Builder

We are finally looking to hire a company to finish our basement. We aren't sure - drywall or basement system? Did you hire a separate person to design the basement? Any recommendations to use (or not to use) specific companies would be appreciated. Any specific things we should make sure to have/do (or not do) would also be appreciated. We live in West Bloomfield, near Farmington Hills.

What can I do next?

Call Kurt's Kustom Remodeling and Renovations. His name is Kurt Johnson you can reach him at ###-###-#### or ###-###-####. He and his team have done some remodeling for me and I love the fact that they work very cleanly. At the end of each day the crew would clean up the mess they had made that day. Good Luck.

I used Middleton Construction out of Wixom. Wonderful builders. They built a front and back deck, redesigned our basement and have done work for friends (Kitchen and living room complete tear down and remodels.) They were a referral to us. I liked that they were a father and son team and their prices were great. I think I have pics if you would like to email me @ ____@____.com and I can send you some. Their phone number is ###-###-####.

Good Luck!

Hi,
I just thought I would send you a quick reccomendation! We have not finished our basement yet, but we had our kitchen remodeled and my in laws are currently having their basement redone. It is all done by a Great childhood friend of my husbands. His website is http://painterbobservicesllc.com/default.html
His is excellent, and very honest and honestly priced. I have reccommended him to many friends over the years and he has become a household name among them!! He would be able to help you with most if not all of your questions about which way to go with the basement and all you need to consider. The top before and after kitchen on his photos page is my kitchen. It came out wonderful!!!. He lives in Ferndale and will travel just about anywhere in the metro area. I have had some of my friends hire others to do kitchens and basements and pay much more, and have gotten less quality work. So don't be afraid to pick a lower price quote, thinking that quality goes with price!! It is not always the case!
That aside no matter WHO you hire, be prepared for a longer than estimated time frame and having to give a little in the times and such. EVERY and I mean EVERY person I know that has EVER hired someone to work on their house, no matter who, or what company they were, seemed to have issues with time constraints. Probably because most of them are doing more than one job at a time. Although I do know that right now, my friend and I would assume, most contractors are slow. This is the slow season and the economy does not help either. Good luck!! and if you have any questions about my friend, please Ask!! The phone number is ###-###-#### and his name is Bob! You can tell him that M. refered you!!

OK, there is a guy named Chris Pipoly, and he is AWESOME! He does painting, drywall, and wallpaper. I would recommend that you call him and ask whom he would recommend to do the building portion and hire him to do the finishing. He is VERY reasonable in price, dependable, quick, and trustworthy. Feel free to tell him E. Florence told you about him. I have hired him twice, and I will go to him again for any work he is able to do for me. His number is ###-###-####. Several people in our sub use him and recommend him. Good luck.

K., My husband is a Firefighter who is a licensed builder and does remodels on his day off. I spoke to him and he said they may be available before summer? Not sure if you can wait that long? He has done several basements in the past and would be willing to give you a bid or helpful information. There are others that he works with that can give you bids as well if you are interested. Firefighters make good contractors because they are typically easily trusted, and they do great work. My husband does not advertise and does everything by word of mouth, he has remained busy throughout because of his reputation. You may email him at ____@____.com
